We recently connected with Nishu Lathwal and have shared our conversation below.
Nishu, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
My first client came from pure hustle and a willingness to give before I got. I was still in college, doing my internships, but on the side I was posting content and sliding into DMs not to sell, but to genuinely help. I’d look at someone’s business and message them like, ‘Hey, here’s what I think you could do better.’ Free advice, no strings attached.
One of those people came back and said he needed help running TikTok ads and had no idea where to start. I told him I’d do it — for $250 for the whole month. Yes, a full month for $250. But honestly, I wasn’t thinking about the money. I knew the theory, but I wanted to practice on a real business. So I went all in.
That experience gave me the confidence and the proof. The second month, I got another client through the same approach — someone just starting out who felt I was the right person to trust. He needed a website, full setup, everything. That’s when I started actually charging what my work was worth.
The lesson? My first client didn’t come from a fancy pitch or a big following. It came from showing up, being genuinely helpful, and not being afraid to start small. The $250 month was worth more than any course I could’ve taken.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m Nishu Lathwal, founder of Social Nix, a social media marketing agency based in Dubai. My background is actually in optometry — yes, I studied eye care but somewhere along the way I completely fell in love with marketing, content creation, and building brands online.
I started Social Nix from scratch, literally cold DMing people while I was still in college, charging $250 for a full month of work just to get real experience. Today, we work with US-based businesses doing $500K+ in revenue, helping them build social media strategies that actually drive results, not just get likes.
What makes us different is simple — we’re honest. The industry is full of agencies overpromising and underdelivering, and I got tired of seeing small business owners waste their money on that. We tell clients exactly what will work, what won’t, and why, even if it’s not what they want to hear.
Outside the agency, I run my personal brand @bossbabesmind on Instagram with 191K followers, where I show up as The Honest Marketer — sharing real marketing strategy, business growth tips, and no-BS advice for founders and entrepreneurs who are done with the fluff.
What I’m most proud of is building something that people actually trust. My clients and my community know that when I say something, I mean it. No smoke and mirrors, no fake results. Just real work, real strategy, and real growth. That’s what Social Nix stands for and that’s what I’ll always stand for.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, 100%. I was literally studying optometry, doing my internship at an eye clinic during the day, and DMing people on Instagram at night trying to help them with their social media. No one around me really understood what I was doing or why. To them I was a student who was going to become an optometrist. But I knew something was pulling me toward marketing and I just couldn’t ignore it.
The key milestones for me were landing that first paid client for $250, then the second one, then realizing I was building something real. At some point I had enough clients and enough confidence to make the decision — this is it. I moved to Dubai, fully committed to Social Nix, and never looked back. Today we work with US businesses doing $500K+ in revenue and I also run my personal brand @bossbabesmind with 191K followers. From optometry student to agency founder was not a straight line at all, but every messy step was worth it.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I built my audience by just being real when everyone else was performing. I started posting content about marketing and business but without the fake guru energy. No rented Lamborghinis, no “I made $10K in my first week” nonsense. Just honest, straight talk about what actually works.
The thing that grew my account was consistency and a clear point of view. I positioned myself as The Honest Marketer and I stuck to it in every single post. People followed me because they trusted me, not because I went viral once.
My advice for anyone starting out — stop trying to please everyone and just say the thing other people in your niche are too scared to say. That’s where your audience is. Niche down, show up consistently, and be so real that people feel like they know you. That’s what builds a community, not just a following.
