We were lucky to catch up with Nik Wolf recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nik, thanks for joining us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I realized when I was still in high school that I was going to have trouble working for other people. My father was a business owner, my grandfather was a business owner, and my great grandfather was a business owner. I tried doing the 9-5, even became a partner at a firm in my 20’s, but I hated every aspect of office work and having half-wit bosses breathing down my neck. I had to get out, flex my entreprenurial muscle, and start my own businesses. Entrepreneurship isn’t for everyone, though. It’s high stress, you are responsible for every aspect of the company, and you have to wear a lot of hats. The then there’s the sleepless nights where you wake up in a panic wondering if this will even work. Like, a few years of that. Ha.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Nik Xandir Wolf. I own a couple of companies, and I am an award winning writer and musician. I am working on my debut album, currently, but I’ve been writing for a long time. I have published six books, run a small press, a brokerage, and make music. I have an MFA from UCR, and attended Stanford’s OWC program in novel writing.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I love collaborating. I am working on a few new songs with some industry legends that I looked up to growing up, and that is one of the most exciting things about being a creative. The people you get to meet, work with, connect with, and the people you get to touch with your art along the way.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
I would say resiliance is key to anything in life. Most people fail because they give up. Set a goal, build a team, and execute. Don’t ask for permission, don’t expect a savior. Get out there and do the hard work and love it. It’s all about the journey. So you better stop and stay mindful along the way.
