We recently connected with Nicole Rangel and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Nicole, thanks for joining us today. Let’s jump right into how you came up with the idea?
The idea for Nicole Rangel Interiors has been something I had been thinking about ever since I was young. I’ve always been drawn to interiors, even before I truly understood what it meant to design a space. Growing up, I was that kid constantly rearranging my room, thinking about how spaces could feel more cohesive, functional, or inviting. It was a passion I carried with me, but I never studied it formally in school.
With my education in communications, I was able to land an internship doing social media for an interior design firm in Newport Beach, CA. While the job was focused on content creation, it gave me a behind-the-scenes look at how the design world worked. Seeing the creativity and thoughtfulness that went into transforming spaces lit something inside me, and I realized this was what I was meant to do. That’s when I decided to pursue it seriously.
Even though I didn’t have a degree in design, I knew that I could still succeed because I was willing to put in the work. I spent countless hours doing my research—watching YouTube tutorials, teaching myself SketchUp, and learning the fundamentals of dimensions and how everyday homes are built. I took inspiration from established designers, studying what they found both beautiful and functional and incorporating those lessons into my approach.
What made this feel like a worthwhile endeavor was the combination of my passion and the knowledge I’d gained. The more I learned, the more confident I felt that I could turn this love for interiors into a business. It wasn’t just about creativity; it was about the strategy, the research, and the ability to bring my vision to life. That belief, mixed with the time and effort I had invested, made me feel like I could truly succeed.

Nicole, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My journey into interior design began with a deep love for spaces and how they can impact our daily lives. Growing up, I was always inspired by Architectural Digest prints and model homes around my neighborhood. The way a room could tell a story fascinated me, and it was that curiosity that led me to pursue design as a profession.
Today, I offer a range of services tailored to meet different client needs. For those seeking quick advice, I provide online calls where we can discuss specific interior design topics. I also offer shop e-design services, which includes space planning, furniture selections, and overall design direction. For clients who want a more hands-on experience, my full-service option covers everything from initial consultations to the final installation.
What sets me apart from other designers is my personalized, one-on-one approach. I make it a priority to truly understand what my clients want and need for their space, ensuring each project is a reflection of their vision. Unlike designers tied to specific furniture stores who may limit selections and rely on email communication, I’m fully immersed in every step of the process and provide a wide range of options that aren’t restricted to one brand.
I’m most proud of the fact that I’ve built and run this business entirely on my own. It’s been a challenging yet rewarding journey, and with each client, I’m learning how to grow and make the experience even better. My goal is to enhance your space and take the stress out of the process so that you can truly enjoy living comfortably in your home.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my social media audience by first focusing on my personal accounts. The key to my growth was being consistent with my content, ensuring that I was always showing up for my supporters. But beyond just posting regularly, I made a point to share snippets of my life, giving my audience a deeper look into who I am as a person. This approach helped me create a sense of connection and authenticity, which I believe is crucial.
I’m now doing the same with my business accounts—showing not just the polished, professional side of my work, but also the human side. I think it’s important to remind people that behind every business is a real person. It’s not about accumulating fans; it’s about building relationships, friendships and connections with people who share your interests or appreciate your work.
For those just starting to build their social media presence, my advice is to be consistent and genuine. Engage with your audience, show them who you are, and don’t be afraid to let them see the behind-the-scenes moments. Think of your social media presence as a way to communicate, not just broadcast—building meaningful connections will set you a part from other businesses.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
For me, the most rewarding aspect of having my interior design business is the opportunity to truly be creative. Yes, there’s a lot of behind-the-scenes work involved—tracking payments, managing the website, keeping up with social media—but the heart of what I do is the design. I get to create beautiful spaces that not only make me proud but bring happiness to my clients.
The most fulfilling part is seeing the designs come to life after all the planning and hard work. It’s one thing to imagine a space, but to see it realized in person is incredible. What makes it even more special is witnessing my clients’ reactions—seeing how happy and appreciative they are with the final result. That’s the true reward, knowing that I’ve created a space that they can love and live in comfortably.
