We were lucky to catch up with Nicole McLean recently and have shared our conversation below.
Nicole, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
The Risk That Changed Everything
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had this deep, restless craving to travel. Not just weekend getaways or family vacations—real, immersive, soul-stirring adventure. But for most of my 20s and 30s, that dream felt like a far-off fantasy, constantly overshadowed by the practicalities of life: kids, work, routine.
Then, in January 2022, everything changed over a simple cup of coffee.
A good friend of mine stopped by for what I thought was just a casual visit. As she was heading out the door, she turned back and threw out a question that would alter the course of my career;
“Would you ever want to co-host a retreat with me?”
Something in me sparked. Within minutes, we were deep in conversation, mapping out ideas, dreaming big. By the time that weekend was over – just three days later – we had a plan, reached out to people, and nearly sold out our first retreat.
I barely had time to process it. I didn’t stop to weigh the pros and cons, to overthink the logistics, to wonder if I was “allowed” to chase this dream while also being a mom and a wife. And yet, when I finally did pause, all the usual fears crept in: What if it’s too much? What if it takes me away from my family too often? What if it doesn’t work?
But my gut knew better. And so, I said yes.
That one small, split-second decision turned into something bigger than I ever could have imagined. Since then, I’ve co-hosted three retreats across Europe, photographing incredible women, building deep connections, and, most importantly, fulfilling a dream I once thought would never happen.
It wasn’t just about the travel. It was about adventure, purpose, community, entrepreneurship- women supporting women. It was about proving to myself that it’s never too late to change your life. While also showing my kids it’s beautiful to dream big.
The moral of the story? If something inside you is whispering (or, in my case, screaming) “go for it”—listen. Take the risk. You never know what kind of magic is waiting on the other side.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I’m Nicole!
I’ve spent over a decade helping women step into their confidence—first through photography, now through a blend of branding, Human Design coaching, and transformational retreats. My work is about more than just images or strategy—it’s about alignment.
How I Got Here:
Photography was my first love, but over time, I realized my passion was helping people see themselves differently. When I discovered Human Design, everything made sense. This tool gave me a deeper understanding of how we’re wired to show up in the world, and I knew I had to integrate it into my work. Now, I help entrepreneurs find clarity, step into authenticity, and align their businesses and lives with their natural energy.
What I Do
• Human Design Readings – Helping people understand themselves so they can show up with confidence.
• Brand Photography – Capturing authentic, aligned visuals for creative entrepreneurs.
• Creative Entrepreneur Retreats – Hosting retreats in Europe where women connect, reset, and gain clarity in business & life.
What Sets Me Apart
I take a whole-person approach—it’s not just about how your brand looks but how it feels to you. My focus is on alignment, intuition, and making sure you’re building a life and business that actually works with your energy.
If you’re feeling stuck or out of alignment, there’s a way forward that feels right. I’m here to help you step into your confidence, trust yourself, and create something that’s truly yours.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
What I believe helps me with my reputation is showing up for my clients and allowing them to have a safe and vulnerable space to be themselves. We have deep conversations and they leave feeling seen and heard. I also go by the phrase, under-promise, over-deliver. I ensure my clients walk away with more then they expected.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Work/life balance, in my opinion would be one of the top rewards for being a creative entrepreneur. I get to work to provide a life of purpose, and choose my income. I also allow myself to show up as a mom and wife. The most important though is putting time for myself. Allowing my passions to grow as well as spending enough time alone so I can show up for my people.
