We recently connected with Nick Laureano and have shared our conversation below.
Nick , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
What drove me to becoming an inspirational speaker and advocate of mental health was more just becoming the title.
My experience alone molded what I am today, I struggled severely with depression and suicide ideation. I survived suicide attempts three times and I didn’t even think I’d be here today to tell the tale. I was so in my head, second guessing every decision I made and feeling that I had. One day, on my third attempt, I had a moment of clarity before I was about to pursue it through and I didn’t fully understand it but it was like God stopped me mid act and told me “don’t do it, this is not how you’re going out. You have more to live for, this isn’t the end.” It was in that moment I through down the sharp object and I began to understand what I’m here to do. It was a risk of taking my life away but a reward in fast forwarding to now where I’m able to speak life into those who need to be seen, heard and felt.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Becoming a speaker wasn’t the easiest. It took a lot of confidence and eliminating self doubt. I knew I had a hidden talent but I didn’t know how to bring it out.
I’d go to speak at events for free just to get my name and reputation built. I spoke on virtual stages just to get my message across and I end spoke in the mirror to myself as a form of practice. I would make content with the camera facing me and being doing it for hours messing up royally but I was learning so much about myself in the midst of it. I would constantly find ways to put myself in a position where I could share my story or even convey a quick message to anyone whom I felt needed it.
In the beginning, I lacked structure but I was super motivated to becoming one of the most well known. I wanted to prove to myself that I belonged. I wanted to be different. Anyone can speak life but very few have lived the life and that’s what I feel sets me apart. My aura and energy are different from those I call peers or leaders. What I bring to the table you might ask? Me. That’s the difference.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to learn to stop doubting myself and my abilities. For years, I constantly lived in the shadows of my own doubt and it kept me stuck for a long period of time.
Overtime as I became sharper and more wiser, I learned I had a hidden talent that the world needed to witness. I had to get out of my own way and out of my head to see what others saw. It took time and plenty of hardships, but I ended up overcoming.

If you could go back, would you choose the same profession, specialty, etc.?
Absolutely. I was put here on Earth to speak life into people and show those who are struggling with self doubt, lack of confidence and anything mental heath related that it’s okay. You’re human. Be yourself and tap into your inner power.
