We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicholas Nizer IV, RN BSN CLS. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nicholas below.
Nicholas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today How did you come up with the idea for your business?
The idea for Tampa Bay Tattoo Removal really began from a very personal place. My partner, Anna Nizer, who is a co-founder and managing partner of the business, had a tattoo she deeply regretted and had previously gone through the removal process herself. That experience was ultimately successful, and it gave her a firsthand look at the tattoo removal industry from the client side.
While the service itself already existed, what stood out was that the overall client experience often felt very transactional. Some experiences included consultations that were sometimes rushed, prices being gatekept, limited communication, and rotating technicians. That planted the seed for the idea that there was an opportunity to elevate the entire removal process.
When we began discussing the possibility of building something together, it quickly became clear that our skill sets complemented each other in a very natural way. Anna focuses heavily on business operations, communication, and the client journey, while I focus on the medical and technical side, understanding skin, treatment protocols, safety, and patient outcomes.
We also knew from the beginning that we wanted to approach the business with a very specific focus. Many clinics offer tattoo removal as just one service among many in a broader medical aesthetics menu. We decided to do the opposite. Tattoo removal would be our specialty and our sole focus. It’s a process that requires a significant investment from clients, not just financially, but also in time and trust, so we wanted to build an environment where people felt completely supported from the moment they first reached out.
That philosophy shapes how we operate day to day. We’re extremely proactive about communication and try to be accessible across as many platforms as possible so clients never feel like they’re waiting in the dark for answers. We provide a full, complimentary one-hour consultation so people can truly understand the process, the science behind it, and what to realistically expect. We even provide an aftercare kit after every session, to make sure clients leave with the tools and guidance they need for the best possible healing and results.
Ultimately, the logic behind why we believed this business would work came down to two things: partnership and purpose. Our backgrounds complement each other, and we both genuinely care about improving the experience for people going through tattoo removal. What excited us most was the opportunity to take a service that already existed and elevate it, creating a clinic where education, communication, and client outcomes are the priority from day one.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My background is long standing in healthcare with 15+ years working in clinical environments where patient care, safety, and outcomes are always the top priority. When Anna and I began building Tampa Bay Tattoo Removal together, my goal was to bring that same professionalism and attention to detail into the tattoo removal industry.
What drew me to this field is that it’s both technical and deeply personal. The technology and science behind laser tattoo removal is fascinating. From understanding how different wavelengths interact with pigment, how the body processes fragmented ink particles, to how to tailor treatments to different skin types and ink densities. But beyond the science, the real impact comes from what those treatments mean for the client.
We focus exclusively on laser ink/pigment removal. That includes traditional tattoo removal, permanent makeup (PMU) removal, scalp micropigmentation (SMP) removal, as well as selective tattoo lightening/fading, and blowout cleanup where we carefully remove unwanted ink while preserving the surrounding tattoo artwork.
Clients come to us for these very reasons. Sometimes it’s a tattoo that no longer represents who they are today. Sometimes it’s permanent makeup that didn’t age well or wasn’t done properly. Other times it’s someone who simply wants to clean up excess ink around a tattoo they still love. In all those situations, we’re helping provide a transformation, and giving clients a chance to remove a piece of them that was intended to be permanent.
What I’m most proud of is the trust that our clients place in us. Tattoo removal is a process, and people are trusting us with something that often carries a lot of personal meaning. Being able to guide them through that journey and see the confidence that comes with their progress is incredibly rewarding.
At the end of the day, our goal isn’t just to remove ink. It’s to help people feel comfortable in their skin again and to give them the freedom to move forward with confidence.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
Yes, in many ways, it did begin as a side pursuit before gradually evolving into a full-time business. When we first started building Tampa Bay Tattoo Removal, I was still working full-time as a registered nurse. Nursing has always been an important part of my life and identity, and at the beginning stages of launching the clinic, it provided both financial stability and the professional grounding that allowed us to grow the business thoughtfully.
In the early days, building the clinic meant working around my nursing schedule. I would work full shifts in the hospital and then dedicate my remaining time to developing the business. This included training, learning the technology, refining treatment protocols, and gradually seeing more clients. Anna was simultaneously building the operational side of the company, focusing on communication, marketing, and the overall client experience. It was very much a step-by-step process where we were laying the foundation while still maintaining our existing responsibilities.
As the clinic began to grow and we started seeing more consistent demand, I gradually adjusted my nursing schedule. That transition allowed me to dedicate more time to the industry while still staying connected to the healthcare field that originally shaped my career pivot.
One thing I often share with other entrepreneurs is that the narrative around starting a business can sometimes be misleading. There’s a lot of advice online encouraging people to “go all in”. While that may work for some people depending on the service, it’s not a one-size-fits-all approach. For many entrepreneurs, having a stable source of income while building a business can turn out being one of the smartest decisions you can make.
Starting a business takes time, consistency, and dedication… growth doesn’t always happen overnight. Having that financial stability allowed us to make thoughtful decisions with our practice instead of rushing or operating under unnecessary pressure to scale or sell. It meant we could invest carefully into the practice, focus on building a strong reputation, and grow at a sustainable pace.
Some of the key milestones along the way were being able to gradually shift from my nursing profession. First it was reducing my hours from full-time nursing to part-time. Then it became working on an as-needed basis as the clinic continued to expand. Each of those steps represented the business becoming stronger and more self-sustaining.
Even today, nursing remains something I deeply care about. It’s where my foundation in patient care and medical responsibility comes from. Continuing to work occasionally in nursing allows me to stay connected to that world while also avoiding the kind of burnout that can come from working full-time in a demanding hospital environment. Now I’m able to approach it from a place of passion rather than necessity.
Looking back, I’m very glad we chose a gradual path. Building the business while maintaining stability allowed us to grow Tampa Bay Tattoo Removal in a thoughtful way, and it gave us the time to focus on creating a clinic that truly prioritizes safety, professionalism, and client care.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Multiple factors were involved that helped us build our reputation within our market. They include my long-standing background, commitment to education, transparency/communication, and professionalism from day one. This approach can work the same for all industries.
My background as a registered nurse naturally shaped the way we approached tattoo removal. While certification and proper training are essential in the laser industry, not every technician performing treatments comes from an extensive medical background. Because of my clinical experience, I approach every treatment from a medical perspective. I evaluate skin health, understand how different pigments and depths respond to laser energy, and make decisions that prioritize both effective removal and the long-term integrity of my clients’ skin.
That medical lens is something our clients really value. Tattoo removal is not just about operating a device; it’s about understanding how the body heals, how pigment interacts with laser wavelengths, and how to safely tailor treatments to each individual person. My background allows me to assess each case more comprehensively and communicate clearly with clients about what’s happening during the process and what results they can realistically expect.
Another major factor in building our reputation has been transparency. From the beginning, we made a conscious decision to be very open and educational about what tattoo removal actually looks like. On our social media platforms and in our consultations, we share a lot of information about the science behind the process, the healing stages, and the variability of treatment plans.
You’ll notice that many of our posts include in-progress photos, not just dramatic before-and-after images. We believe it’s important for people to understand the process, not just the result. By sharing real treatment progress, we’re helping potential clients develop realistic expectations and giving them a better understanding of how removal works over time.
That level of transparency builds trust. People appreciate seeing the full journey rather than just a highlight reel. We want our clients to feel informed, safe, and confident in the care they’re investing in. When people understand the process and know that they’re being treated with integrity, they’re much more likely to trust you. That trust is what really builds a strong reputation in a local market.
