We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nicholas Mullins. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with nicholas below.
Hi Nicholas, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?
I was originally working as a Nurse Practitioner at a pain management office and part of my job responsibilities was to administer injections, mainly knee and hip. My boss entertained the idea of adding cosmetics to the practice and asked for my help in the expansion. I spent months studying and learning all I could about the cosmetic field. Ultimately, the organization did not purse that concept and the idea was history. After a few weeks, I decided that I wasn’t going to put all that learning and education to waste. I made the decision to enter a training program for cosmetic injectors and the rest was history!

Nicholas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was originally doing knee and hip injections for a pain management clinic who had the idea of opening a cosmetic clinic to supplement the practice but that concept never came to fruition. I took it upon myself to take that idea and make it a reality. I took a class for cosmetic injectors and the rest was history! I believe the most important aspect of cosmetics is a detailed history and examination. Without such, you can’t provide proper care and help the client achieve the best outcome. I believe the things that sets me apart from other injectors or practices is my ability to educate clients, provide thorough follow up, and always engage in ongoing continuing education. Educating your clients is a must and critical to achieving the desired outcome. A thorough follow up is also extremely important to make sure the client is satisfied and to do everything you can to ensure they are happy with the result. Lastly, I pride myself on always being involved in learning and growing as a provider. No matter what your skill level is, there are always things to learn and medicine as a whole is always changing.

How’d you meet your business partner?
My business partner is my wife. Before every starting my business, I had heard many horror stories about businesses partnerships gone wrong and I wanted to make sure I did everything to avoid this issue happening to me. The overwhelming message I heard from other business owners was to choose your business partner wisely and make sure it is someone you can trust and will bring a similar energy to the business. My wife is an amazing woman who has been supportive in many of my prior adventures/ideas. I couldn’t think of anyone else I would rather have by my side.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Tackling social media was a huge challenge for me. Before starting my business, I spend little to no time on social media from a personal perspective. I had to learn the basics of how social media worked in general before I could even begin to understand how that looked from a business point of view. I spent a lot of time thinking about what image I wanted to portray to future clients and how to let them get to know me before ever stepping foot in my office. This is probably one of the biggest areas of struggle early on and one I had to learn from with lots of trial and error. One thing that really helped me gain followers and new clients was to avoid only posting business content. I noticed after posting a few personal videos and pictures that was separate from the business, people began to respond more positively to my content. Some new clients would come in feeling like they already knew me and my staff. I was really glad that I took suggestions early on and was open to trying new things. My wife was extremely helpful in this aspect of the business as well!
