Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Nicholas Kusnir. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Nicholas, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Almost all entrepreneurs have had to decide whether to start now or later? There are always pros and cons for waiting and so we’d love to hear what you think about your decision in retrospect. If you could go back in time, would you have started your business sooner, later or at the exact time you started?
I have definitely wished that I started taking control of my own time much sooner, but there’s nothing I can do to change that so I don’t dwell on it.
I’ve always found myself attracted to creative roles, and what started as fun ended up turning into a job. I worked in Television and Film, helping design sets or organize shoots, for a number of years before turning to marketing. I had worked a number of odd jobs while attending University, and realized I had a knack for creating engaging content. I was then offered jobs in hospitality and tech, creating viral videos to boost sales. It got to a point where I realized I could be doing this for myself instead of giving my time to someone else.
Although I love working with people, and for people, there’s something extremely freeing about being in charge of my own schedule and being able to take on projects that I feel comfortable with.

Nicholas, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Yes! I got into content creation really just by chance, and by always having an interest for making things to entertain people. As a kid, I was given a camcorder and used it to record “movies” at home. I always loved writing scripts, creating story lines, and making other people laugh and/or see things from a different perspective.
As I grew up, I realized that story-telling is exactly what marketing is. If you have a product or a service that you want to provide to people, you have to sell them a story so that they connect with it and want the product/service for themselves. I spent years creating and analyzing what sort of story lines and style guides would resonate with different demographics, and put them to use to sell products. After doing this in an office for years, I felt a little trapped and wanted to take control of my own schedule so I could spend more time with my family and friends, and also be able to spend more time on my true passions, such as traveling.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
I’ve pivoted several times in my life so far, and I’m sure that I’ll pivot again. Times change, especially when it comes to technology and social media. It’s such a fast growing industry, and there’s always new platforms, new creators, and new competitors that you have to learn to work with.
10 years ago I was working on movie sets, in restaurants, and the occasional red carpet to host interviews. I then moved cities and decided I didn’t want to work in entertainment anymore, so I shifted my career path towards marketing. Now, although I still work in marketing, it’s a completely different experience since I’m essentially marketing myself to companies, and then promoting products as well.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
Fortunately, starting a business that can all be done from my phone (although, I do use a computer quite a bit to make some things easier on myself) didn’t require any capital to get started! All I had to do was believe in myself and pitch myself to a first round of clients (about 99% of them said “no”), and once I got my first “gig” I was able to slowly start buying things I needed to build myself up.
