We recently connected with Nic Vandamme and have shared our conversation below.
Nic, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
I haven’t touched a spray paint can I a few years but I can recall my first tag in portland Oregon at the age of 16. I was born in Los Angeles but grew up with my mom in Oregon. It wasn’t until after high school I started working with acrylic paints. I had my first really exhibition all the way in the Hong Kong at the Meridian Hotel. I sold almost everything, besides 2 that I gifted to friends over there. The shipping prices are insane! After I did a few shows in Europe under my first graffiti artist name… VLAD. Now I’m doing more 3D pop art, combined with a 1930’s rubber hose cartoon style. I’ll have an upcoming event on the 29th at The Messenger gallery in Santa Monica

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I also am a free lance writer, I’ve was able to book a few gigs as an actor but prefer to direct and create the story. Art will always be a professional hobby to me but this year I’ve decided to go full head on and try to make some incredible new pieces for the world to see

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
We need to get back to physical art, art is in investment but we can only decide as a group when conversing in person. When society chooses the next big artist the prices go up, but how can we rely on social media when AI blocks certain content and artist just because of an algorithm. As humans we need to remember we’re still in charge.

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Being able to create with your hands is incredible, and for people to actually consider purchasing a un-edited concept straight from your brain is so fascinating. It’s almost as if we borrow and share states of mind so we can use the emotions to get us through life.
