We caught up with the brilliant and insightful NewLife a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
NewLife , appreciate you joining us today. Your ability to build a team is often a key determinant of your success as a business owner and so we’d love to get a conversation going with successful entrepreneurs like yourself around what your recruiting process was like -especially early on. How did you build your team?
From the start it’s been myself and my cameras. The deeper you get into your career and life , you realize the value of teamwork . The saying “ Teamwork makes the Dream work “ , is a real life experience. Stepping into a leader position is allowing me to be more open and excited to build my team . I’ve had the past 2 years to learn how to become my true self in every form, from that I build. It’s more fun with a team , especially when we can grow , make money. , and travel the world creating the Greatest Content ever . The exciting part is starting it , the rest is already there for us .
NewLife , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is NewLife , I am a Global Photographer , Creative , Mogul , Director , Humanitarian , Team Player . Originally from Columbus , Ga but moved to Atlanta Ga in 2019. I started my photography journey from being sick with Lupus . At the time I couldn’t really do a lot of day to day things in the world . Due to health problems at the time limiting me physically, I chose to upgrade my craft . Building my brand “ NewLife “ is bigger than just snapping a photo , I bring value and creativity to anyone I’m blessed to meet . My journey has taught me discipline first and second to always be your true self . Discipline for me has and still is teaching me money management, business lessons , expanding my ability to learn . It’s easy to make money but keeping it is where we lack . It stops with me so I strive everyday to retain knowledge on things that’ll help me grow as a man , business owner. I’ve come so far in 3 years , it flies by . I realize the talent was always in me , I had to bring it out . The way my creativity was able to open up was by becoming my true self and amplifying it . We hold our selves back from showing people who we are , in business and in life . 2022 has taught me that truly being me is what gets me to the next level . Staying true to who I am , my beliefs , etc.
I do a lot of work in the Music Industry field . Things I offer are Behind the scenes ( bts ) , vlog videos , pictures . I shoot all kind of different types of shoots , but what I really focused on has granted different relationships and opportunities that expanded drastically. What sets me apart is how I’m able to adapt to all types of creative content .
More than anything I am proud of myself for never giving up . Life has its times , but through those times I’ve been able to grow and learn lessons that have gotten me here today . Now I share those experiences with the world through my voice and my camera. My name is a story of me and why I create . I love to share my story with people on my journey to enlighten them about who they are and what they can become , but also to bring awareness to health and mental .
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Photography for me started off as a side hustle , but I always saw the longevity in it but you have to start somewhere , so im Grateful. When I was working a job and doing my photography, I was faced with some choices . Through photography, I found my purpose in life . Being at a place where I couldn’t be on my phone while at work and still getting calls and txts for bookings . It made me think and step out on my two feet and understand that I could be a full time entrepreneur. The first time I stepped out to try it my mindset and skill hadn’t advanced enough, but this time I was ready ready . On the journey on transitioning, networking and promotion is key . I’ve done the work , but the Networking and building the relationship is what changes your atmosphere. Being confident in my craft and myself to get the work done and also to show why I’m here . I’ve been blessed with abilities to learn how to build a relationship then apply that lesson to last . It’s a wonderful feeling walking in the door and understanding why you’re there . Setting myself apart from the rest naturally allowed me to flow further in my career . Now that I’m in my new chapter I’m able to take what I’m now learning and apply as a leader .
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Within the last few months , pivoting is all I have been doing . I feel like in order for your life to pivot in any way you have to learn accountability. Accountability in life , business . My life has been a lot of that lately on the bright side . Adjusting moving around , becoming busier with new plans , building relationships and understanding the Growth is happening to me and around me . The pivot is for you to grow , take advantage of it .
