NEHAL, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The mission has always been clear – since day 1, our goal was to be a highly successful, sales driven organization with a NON-CUTTHROAT culture. Rather, a family unit that protects each other and helps their fellow man win. I come from a highly successful sales driven organization, however, the culture was very suspect when it came to “winning”. All the wrong behaviors went without true reprimand, and at times, those negative behaviors were rewarded with positive outcomes. The 2 big problems with that is 1) You are encouraging the wrong future behaviors (steal from your fellow man, beat them at all costs, etc.) AND 2) You are pushing away all the good, ethical people while simultaneously attracting all the wrong ones. So we have sought out to do the seemingly impossible… take a bunch of competitive guys and gals, train them to be monsters, then encourage them to be those beasts in their pursuit of excellence, while making sure the man or woman next to him/her is also winning…. All while performing in a 100% commissions based position. It’s tough – but with the right people, anything is POSSIBLE!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Our brand and organization is a cultural circle built by the people for the people. Our brand could not have been created with just myself. My business partners; Christian Jimenez, Maria Nguyen, Miguel Taveras, and Freddy Murphy helped created the foundation of where Blue Hammer stands. But our people is what grew the brand and stabilized the organization. With like minded individuals who have similar values/principles; building a “brand” is simply multiplying the family. This is what sets us apart from all other organizations within our industry and has been the only reason why our brand has stood out against all odds.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
You should be able to run people thru your system and change them… False!
You can’t change people – that’s God’s job and that job is taken. All you can do is inspire them by being “The Example” and influence their thinking daily.
That doesn’t mean you give up on people – it means people will change on their accord. It’s your duty to always be in their face with positive influence and constant challenges to improve them… they will either “step up or step out”. Sometimes having them “step out” is doing them a favor as it can push them closer to where they actually want to be. Obviously if they step up, well, mission accomplished!
Have you ever had to pivot?
We are COVID babies! In our first 3 months of being in business, COVID forced our business to adjust by deeming only certain business as “essential”. Gratefully, we were listed as “essential” and could continue conducting business as usual, but our customers had also changed during this process. Our in person contact relationship building was nonexistent and we had to adjust to virtual relationship building. During this time of adjustment, an opportunity presented itself in Del Rio, TX. Hail had hit a small city in South, TX and as a family; we made the decision to go down to service those homeowners. This pivoted our business, allowed us to quickly rebuild, and eventually built one of our strongest business strategies today; servicing Catastrophic Storms.
