We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nawel Abdelaziz. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nawel below.
Alright, Nawel thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there an experience or lesson you learned at a previous job that’s benefited your career afterwards?
I worked in retail at a skincare company in the mall, and my manager there was stern but kind, and made sure to coach and guide us, rather than lead by force. She taught us attention to detail and the importance of always presenting with your best self. Whether that was with how we dressed or got ready, or how we communicated and showed up for the day.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Im Nawel! I am an Egyptian/hispanic hairstylist, makeup artist and health enthusiast. From a young age, I have always had an entrepreunuerial spirit. From selling Avon door to door at 8, and carrying my first job at the age of 15, I have always loved to hustle. I was influenced early on by my late aunts Andrella & Nicki, Andrella being the beauty enthusiast, and Nicki motivating me to stay healthy and keep fitness as a priority. They both taught me discipline, kindness and that if you work hard and don’t give up on yourself, your possibilities for life are endless.
After attending Aveda for hair school, I really found my passion for being able to create and empower my clients through the services I offer. Aveda taught me that education is a life long journey, and encouraged me to fine tune my expertise by continuing my education. I really wanted to make sure that I took care of every client that sat in my chair, no matter their hair texture of color of their skin, I wanted to make every person feel seen and cared for. I now specialize my services in texture and curly hair and have brought that passion to my social media, sharing tips & tricks for my curly headed friends.
As a freelance hair and makeup artists here in LA, I offer my services from anything to special occasion glam, bridal to runway, fashion, TV & Film. I want to be inclusive and spread positivity to my viewers and clients, I feel that we all have space to share, and knowledge to gain from each other.

Other than training/knowledge, what do you think is most helpful for succeeding in your field?
Keeping your mind open and available to constructive criticism and advice. I have learned so much from my peers and mentors, and being open and receptive to learning and tweaking how I work, it has elevated my skills as a professional and a as business owner to the next level.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I think being authentic, and kind and open has truly helped me build myself and a good name in my industry. I always want to show up and build up my peers and clients. I also believe that being ready, so you don’t have to get ready, is important. Being a pro hair and makeup artist on set with many different textures of hair or shades of skin, I found that always being ready to make whatever request happen on set, defineitely set me apart, and gave me opportunities I would have never been able to have.
