We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Natasha Daniels a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Natasha, appreciate you joining us today. Almost every entrepreneur we know has considered donating a portion of their sales to an organization or cause – how did you make the decision of whether to donate? We’d love to hear the backstory if you’re open to sharing the details.
Thank you for inviting me. I participate in the Out of the Darkness Walk with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention every year helping to raise funds and awareness along with donating a portion of my proceeds to National Alliance on Mental Illness in memory of my younger brother Christopher.
My brother took his life in November of 2018. I participate with these foundations and alliances to bring awareness to mental health and suicide prevention in hopes of reducing the stigmas around mental health and seeking medical attention.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
I began my journey of developing a passion for capturing moments and expressing my creativity through photography. I am completely self-taught through practice, experimentation, and continuous learning. After losing my brother to suicide in 2018, I chose to focus on my dreams of owning my own photography business and helping spread love and light while sharing the beauty I see every day.
In terms of products and services, I offer a range of options including portrait photography, sports photography, fashion photography, commercial photography, landscape photography, and more.
I aim to reach the expectations of my clients, such as capturing memorable moments, creating beautiful and engaging imagery for marketing purposes, and delivering high-quality images for display. I strive to understand my clients’ unique needs and vision, and work closely with them to deliver personalized and exceptional results.
What sets me apart from other photographers lies in my artistic style, passion for growth, level of professionalism, and ability to connect with my clients. Each photographer has their own unique perspective, artistic approach, and storytelling ability that they bring to their work. The ability to establish a rapport with clients and make them feel comfortable and confident during a shoot is something I take great pride in as well.
I especially take pride in my work when I am able to create meaningful and impactful images that evoke emotion and tell a story. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I see the joy and satisfaction in my clients’ faces upon receiving their final gallery. Building a strong reputation, gaining recognition through awards or publications, and having a loyal client base are also achievements that I strive for.

Where do you think you get most of your clients from?
Word of mouth is the greatest advertising. Clients leaving reviews and sharing your name and work is the best reward of all.

Can you talk to us about how your funded your business?
My boyfriend of 7 1/2 years, Mike, has been incredibly supportive of my photography business right from the beginning. He recognized my passion and talent for photography and decided to invest in my dreams. Mike bought me my first camera as a gift, which was a significant step towards starting my business.
As my passion for photography grew, Mike continued to support me by gifting me more equipment for birthdays and Christmas. These thoughtful gifts not only provided me with the tools I needed but also served as a constant reminder of his belief in my abilities.
With Mike’s financial support and encouragement, I was able to pursue my photography business while still maintaining a balance between work and family life. This support allows me to spend quality time with my beautiful daughters and travel the world, creating memories along the way.
Over time, as my clientele expanded and my business thrived, I was able to establish a small studio downtown and furnish it with gifts from family and friends from my business shower. This growth and success are a testament to my dedication and talent, but it wouldn’t has been possible without the unwavering support and belief of Mike.
I consider myself blessed to have such an amazing partner and family who not only provides financial support but also stands by my side through the ups and downs of building a business. My partner, along with our two beautiful daughters and loyal clients, has been instrumental in my growth and success as a photographer. I continue to find ways to expand and improve my business, all thanks to the love, support, and opportunities provided by my partner and my loved ones.
