Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Natalya Lowe. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Natalya, appreciate you joining us today. Showing clients you appreciate them is something I think most folks want to do – but it’s not always clear how to do it in a meaningful way. What’s one of the best examples of client appreciation you can share with us?
Showing appreciation to your clients is a wonderful way to strengthen your relationship with them and make them feel valued. Along with a goodie bag, I include a handwritten note expressing my gratitude for their trust in my skills and how much I enjoyed working with them. Personalization adds a thoughtful touch and shows that I genuinely care. After the makeup appointment or event, I take the time to reach out to my clients with a phone call or a personalized message. I Ask them how they felt about the experience, if they have any feedback, and let them know how much i appreciate their business.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
How I got into the makeup industry, was mostly started alone. It was me taking the step forward to move across the country to chase my dreams in Los Angeles. I knew at age 15 I wanted to become a professional make up artist and make it full-time. I chose to start my career at a make up school learning how to professionally start up a business. My faith was the biggest thing that got me through the hard times, and the alone times. I am so blessed for the clientele I have grown. My mom was a cosmetologist so I grew up in the beauty industry, but knew I wanted to take a risk and share my skills in the big city of Los Angeles. I have so many things I want to check off my career to do list and I am so proud of where I have become. I truly have no idea what else I would be doing if it wasn’t Makeup! I have a real passion and love for what I do And the results are always encouraging. My passion is resonating with people, and they trust me to enhance their beauty. My dedication and hard work has paid off. I have a drive to continually improve and seek new opportunities.
Have you ever had to pivot?
Covid was when my business took a pivot. The beginning of the pandemic I was living in Los Angeles, but chose to go home to be closer to family. That meant to leave the big city of Los Angeles where I was just starting my career off, to go back home to small town Iowa With no work being guaranteed. I then had to figure out what else I could do to show my passion. Social media was my only option to start playing around with. I created videos of myself applying make up as well as finding models to create fun looks with! I had a goal to reach out to beauty brands and want to become on their PR list to shout out their products that I have been using since I first started make up. I reached out to a lot of photographers who wanted to collab and create content with. Nowadays, social media is one of the biggest platforms we can share work on. It is also a portfolio for us in the industry. This is a whole other business in itself! I may not feel comfortable in front of the camera or creating videos for people to watch, but I knew it would help my business grow in the long run!
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Moving to a big city alone, not knowing anyone meant I had to make a name for myself. I had to reach out to people I wanted to work with whether that be photographers, models or certain companies to share my talent with. I also had to Network in whatever environment I was. I have always been very shy, but when it came to talking about my make up business, it came easy. Whether thats small talk in the elevator, or at a large event, handing out business cards!
