We were lucky to catch up with Natahia Corsey recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natahia, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. So, folks often look at a successful business and think it became a success overnight – but that often obscures all the nitty, gritty details of everything that went into the growth phase of your business. We’d love to hear about your scaling story and how you scaled up?
“Surround yourself with only people who are going to lift you higher.” -Oprah Winfrey
Some people are born into very poisonous environments. In some conditions, you can find a ‘cure’ and escape to a better life. For some, the poison is too strong and it is almost impossible to leave. Growing up, I knew the environment I lived in was not my true identity. I had big goals and dreams that were laughable to my friends. I was constantly reminded that I was just like everyone else in the hood. But I never lost the fire I had in me to escape and grow into who I could only dream to be. Once I went to college, I finally felt a sense of accomplishment. I attended the University of Houston in the greater third ward area. I felt out of place at time because there was a dramatic shift in my environment; however, I knew my goals were finally within reach.
I want to stress the importance of networking and surrounding yourself with people who can encourage or inspire growth. I began to ask questions, became associated with successful people who were passionate and eager to teach. I ‘scaled up’ because I believed in myself and knew I was destined for great things. I am still learning and growing everyday. But I will always remember the sky is never the limit, your vision is.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’ve always had an artistic eye and loved capturing beautiful moments. I grew to love photography, art, makeup and theatre. I also loved to make others laugh and feel good about themselves. Spreading my light and being a positive force is how I began my content creator journey. I realized the influence I had around me. I was role model to some and I did not take this lightly. I felt a spark to spread my love and light and I do that through social media. I also work a full time job for a major manufacturer that has opened more opportunities for me as well.
Being in the military, I was taught discipline and to keep going until the job is done. My daily drive comes from my desire to be a better person than I was yesterday.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
A lesson I had to unlearn is the conditioned mindset that is developed during our growing years. As kids, we are sponges to what we think is the right way of life. For some, we live the life others want for us and not what we really love. I had to make the hard decision of doing what I wanted and what I felt was best for me.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
My advice for building on social media is engaging with creators and content similar to yours. For example, the algorithm with push posts that they feel interest you. If you engage with animal content and your page is more catered to cooking, you will be pushed to the wrong audience. Your cooking videos will be pushed to animal pages and they will scroll past. If you engage with other cooks and like more cooking related content, you will see a boost in engagement. This is why some make separate business pages from personal to keep a certain algorithm and audience.
