We recently connected with Nahuel Hilal and have shared our conversation below.
Nahuel, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
We are a bridge that connects artists and clients. We are dedicated to taking care of every detail of the process, from the idea of the tattoo, the searching for an appointment, the technical advising up to the healing. In all this development, there is a background of carefully curated experiences. Our mission is to make every tattoo and piercing experience a happy one
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Being an avid tattoo collector for almost 30 years, my passion for the industry grew stronger as I gained experience. I noticed that in most cases there was a missing connection between artists and clients, sometimes even a lack of awareness from either side and I decided I will offer both a solution, a “bridge” to make every tattoo experience memorable for clients and easy and safe for tattooers. Tattoo artists need to focus on the technical part of the experience leading in some cases to somehow neglect or ignore the emotional aspect of what brought that person to the tattoo chair. On the other hand, clients ignore the amount of work that is behind the actual tattoo, like drawing, ensuring supplies, managing bookings, etc,etc and could demand more engagement from the artist that he or she may be able to commit to. This is where we step up and curate the experience for both the client and the artist. This has been the backbone of our business.
Has your business ever had a near-death moment? Would you mind sharing the story?
My business started in Argentina and soon we became a huge success over there, a couple of years later I have decided to expand to the USA market wrongly believing that because I had a name elsewhere it would be easy for us to build a name here. At first no tattoo artist wanted to participate in our business, we struggled to find the right people and quickly I was left very close to shutting down, thats when our partner Kenneth (Studio manager at the time) took on the role of active partner, deciding to work at risk of not getting paid to save the studio and build a team that later became a family with strong ties, shared values and unmatchable professionalism.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Consistency, commitment and honesty. We are consistent in providing extraordinary technical work along with an extraordinary customer experience. We maintain a high level of commitment constantly, each client has to live the IRIS experience from opening to closing time. Commitment: We truly care what our work says about us, when we make mistakes we own them and we do whatever possible to fix them, we follow up with our clients. Honesty, we make sure what you see in our social media/reviews/website is the actual experience you have when you reach the studio. We dont commit to services we know we cant provide under our standards.
