We were lucky to catch up with Morgika recently and have shared our conversation below.
Morgika, appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
In general im very happy with being a musician. Social part of it fuels me with so much love. Meeting new people, connecting to them through music, belonging to something bigger is so important to me.
I still do have a ‘regular life’ on the side and it can be very difficult to combine it. The more my music career grows, the less i get time and energy to maintain my education.
I am not a citizen of the country where i live and sadly my music career is not enough to keep my visa, so i am obligated to study and then also work in order to stay in Germany. I am glad i can be here, but i wish my music career would be enough to stay and keep going.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My artist name is Morgika. I am a ukrainian singer-songwriter ans a musician. In local circles i am known for my melancholic style, combining Americana, Bluegrass, Country and Folk.
At the moment i am based in Germany, playing in local bars and small venues, sometimes collaborating with other musicians and bands like Capt’n Scum, Sherman Potatoe, Wooden Creek or Wasted Rascals.
The instrumentation on my songs is usually a simple arrangement, with me accompanying my vocals with an acoustic guitar.
Songs written and performed by me contain personal and social themes, like my life as a refugee, love and death, alcohol, religion and outcast life.
Most of the people know me from my active support to musicians in scene. I go to all possible concerts and i visit most of the Bluegrass Festivals in Germany and Netherlands. I jam a lot and connect to musicians from all over the world.
I am very proud to support my local community and to perform at local festivals or exhibitions for other artists. Also at the moment i am working on my first single ‘Vagabond Princess’. The date of release is not decided yet, but it definitely will be out this year.
How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Please go to concerts, buy merch and records/CD’s directly from musicians. It is the best financial support you can give.
Sadlyspotify and other streaming platforms don’t support musicians whatsoever and let us starve. Bandcamp is a good alternative and supports us way better.
If can’t support financially, then just follow us in social media, repost our videos and songs, tell your friends about us. Spread a word about the show or just make some photos and videos at the concert.
Or just text us, contact us and walk up to us and give us few nice words!
For actual buissness people who own spaces, shops, cafes, bars and restaurants: hire musicians to play live, support them financially!
Or if you own a very small business, then offer to play for a hat to small young starting musicians, even teenagers 🫶

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
Before i even started playing guitar, i always knew i want to do music. I told my family about it, but they haven’t believed in my idea. And they couldn’t afford it either, our family was quite poor, just a typical working class family from a small town in Ukraine.
Then when we moved to Germany, i told some of my musician friends about my idea and they’ve told me that Ill never be able to play, since i am “just a little girl with tiny hands”.
But i didn’t stop. With the support of my mother I bought my first guitar when i was 16. Through blood, sweat and tears i learned how to play it, changed many teachers, but none of them could help me.
Still i kept going. I still do. Because i am just a beginner. Some of my friends heared me giving up. “Ill never be able to do it. Ill never be able to sing and play”. This learned narrative was talking to me in my head.
And now it’s a year since ive played my first show. One step after another i get better, i get stronger, i get more confident. And now i know that it’s worth it. That i am a resilient, talented and smart woman. And i am able to do anything i decide to do.
