We recently connected with JaDarius Bailey and have shared our conversation below.
JaDarius, appreciate you joining us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
It is The Otherworld, It was the first Album I did after really taking production seriously, it was also the first time I seriously looked into the more technical side of production. I really tried to push the envelope with what I could do conceptually with trying to find sounds that make up different aspects of a personal sphere or a “World” and that’s what came out of it. I’m a huge fan of Hans Zimmer and Ludwig Gorranson and I really wanted to mimic the hybrid, larger than life sound they typically have and that was exactly what I did for a few of the tracks on the later half. Funny enough if it wasn’t for one of my friends I probably would have at the very least structured it differently. He told me it would be a cool concept if it started out with acoustic sounds and progressively got more electronic and I ran with it.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hi, I am JDthewriter (formerly J1DB2423)
I’m from a small town in Georgia and I make music. I started out by listening to my family members play instruments in church and wanting to do so myself, I tried to learn guitar when I was young but I was much too impatient, I then naturally started to pick up drum set a couple years later. I then joined band in 6th grade on trumpet where I would eventually join marching band in 8th grade and stay in it until the end of my junior year in college so music had always been a huge part of my life just as a musician. I remember getting a new phone for Christmas when I was 15 and trying to figure out how GarageBand worked and when I did I started to make music on my phone like most people with no budget do. Safe to say it sounded awful, but even now after 5 years I can still see some of the value in some of the ideas to the point of recreating it better. Fast forward to when I graduated high school one of the first things I did was buy FL, it seemed to be the daw that all the YouTubers I liked to watch used and boy would that lead to some irresponsible purchases. It took me a while but I ended up getting acclimated and making some music that actually sounded decent, Then I made “cinematicism” born out of a word that doesn’t exist. It started out as chords and I built it up until what it is now. It’s also the first Hybrid piece I ever made on FL. It’s crazy to think I started out making cinematic beats that sounded like they’re meant for video games, to a variety of beats that span from emotional R&B to Anthemic Hip Hop to hybrid Orchestral to most recently EDM. I’ve also been scoring. So far I’ve done 2 short films, a long form film, and a teaser. I’ve also been going to school for music production which has really helped me in my journey. I’m proud of everything I’ve done but I think I’m most proud of the growth I’ve shown to myself and to others. I’m now the person other people can call when they need a certain thing and that’s one of the best feelings a man can have. I’ve been told by several people “I don’t know how you do it” or “I could never do what you do” when it comes to writing music and I also think to myself just wait and see what I do next because I still have a long way to go.

Is there mission driving your creative journey?
Yes there is. My end goal is to score movies while still being able to produce for artists. I would love to make my music work for me and become the face of scores like Hans Zimmer

What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
Seeing the growth and watching others admire your work. I am very much a journey is more important than the destination person so to see how much I’ve grown since starting is very gratifying seeing other people’s reaction is always great too, hearing the stories they paint for themselves, it makes me feel like less of an artist and more of a canvas. I can only do so much to lay down a feeling but the story they get, it’s all them.
