Alright, MoNique thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
My teaching career was with dedication, challenge, and ultimately, self-discovery. It began with a full-time teaching role, with passion. A shift came when I took on the rewarding challenge of teaching English as a Second Language (ESL). This experience broadened my perspective and introduced me to the unique needs of diverse learners.
Life then presented a new twist. The demands of becoming a caregiver for my husband necessitated a transition to a part-time teaching role. This decision offered more flexibility but also brought a heavy load. Even with the switch, the responsibilities of caregiving eventually led me to leave the world of full-time teaching altogether.
While navigating this new normal, a critical realization struck me. In the process of caring for my husband, I wasn’t prioritizing my own well-being. Any attempt at self-care was met with a crushing sense of guilt. This internal conflict became a turning point.
This time for introspection became the seed of my transformation. I began consulting with teachers, sharing my expertise and passion for education in a new way. During this period I recognized the importance of self-care for educators, a concept that resonated deeply with my own experiences.
The defining moment arrived when I realized that my own healing journey, focused on putting myself first and prioritizing self-care, could empower others. This personal transformation fueled my desire to become a “Your Healthy MoJo Spiritual Cheerleader and Self-Care-Ologist/Guide.” This new path allowed me to not only guide women on their self-care journeys but also dismantle the guilt often associated with prioritizing well-being.
In essence, my teaching career was a catalyst. It was a beautiful exploration that led me to discover my own needs, the power of self-care, and the profound strength it takes to be a caregiver. Now, I can use my remarkable experience to ignite a self-care revolution, empowering other women to prioritize their well-being without guilt.

Hi Beautiful Beinngs! I’m Dr. MoJo of Your Healthy MoJo, and I’m here to guide you on your path to self-care. My journey to becoming a Self-Care-Ologist/Guide wasn’t a straight line, but fulfilled with my educational experiences, caregiving, and ultimately, self-discovery.
For years, I poured my heart into teaching, even specializing in English as a Second Language to connect with a diverse range of learners. But life took an unexpected turn when I became a caregiver for my husband. Balancing this responsibility with my teaching career forced me to re-evaluate everything.
It was during this time that I realized something crucial: I wasn’t taking care of myself. The guilt of prioritizing self-care was overwhelming. This internal struggle became the seed of my transformation.
While still navigating caregiving, I started consulting with teachers, sharing my passion for education. This experience sparked a fire within me – the importance of self-care, especially for women juggling so many roles.
In December 2021, I embarked on a new chapter, officially starting my self-care business and earning my doctorate in 2023 . Here’s how I can help you:

What truly sets me apart is my own lived experience. I broke free from cultural conditioning that made me prioritize external pressures over my inner world. This journey, fueled by self-care, is what allows me to be your guide.
What I’m Most Proud Of:
Overcoming the cultural conditioning that kept me on autopilot. Self-care became the bridge that reconnected me with my true self, the “Inner ME”.
What I Want You to Know:
Self-care isn’t selfish, it’s essential. Just like my husband said, the greatest gift you can give is your time. Out of 1,440 minutes in a day, how much are you truly dedicating to yourself? Self-care is about checking in on your emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being before stress and burnout take hold.

Training and knowledge matter of course, but beyond that what do you think matters most in terms of succeeding in your field?
While knowledge and training are important for any profession, there are fundamental qualities that truly set successful self-care guides apart. These qualities form the foundation that allows you to build strong, trusting relationships with your clients and empower them to achieve lasting change.
Here’s why self-care, trust, and confidence are the cornerstones of success in this field:
* Self-Care: You can’t pour from an empty cup. By prioritizing your own well-being, you become a beacon of self-care for your clients. They see your own journey and know you understand their struggles firsthand.
* Trust: Creating a safe space is paramount. Clients need to feel comfortable being vulnerable and sharing their deepest struggles. When you prioritize self-care and radiate genuine confidence, it fosters a sense of trust that allows true transformation to happen.
* Confidence: Believing in yourself and your approach is essential. Your confidence inspires your clients to believe in themselves and their ability to prioritize self-care.
These qualities intertwine. Self-care fuels your confidence, which allows you to create a trusting space for your clients. In turn, witnessing your clients’ success further strengthens your own belief in the power of self-care. It’s a beautiful cycle!

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
Lesson Unlearned: Age Limits on Self-Care
There was a time when I wanted to primarily help midlife women with self-care. I envisioned my clients as busy professionals juggling careers, families, and aging parents. The idea of a younger demographic needing self-care guidance just didn’t resonate with me at the time.
The Backstory:
This perspective stemmed from my own experiences. As a full-time teacher and then a caregiver, self-care became a lifeline during a demanding period in my life. Naturally, I gravitated towards helping women dealing with similar challenges.
The Shift:
However, the world of self-care is evolving! Social media has opened my eyes to the very real pressures young people face today. From academic stress and social media anxieties to navigating complex relationships, self-care is just as important for younger generations.
Openness to Growth:
I’m constantly learning and growing. Marketing research will be a fantastic tool to gain even deeper insights into the needs of diverse audiences. I’m excited to see what the results reveal and how I can tailor my approach to empower women of all ages on their self-care journeys!
