Miranda, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your business sooner or later
Looking back, I truly believe I started my business at exactly the right time for me. I’ve always been creative, but I was searching for a career that would grow with me and not feel stagnant or repetitive over time. Photography ended up being the perfect fit because it allows for so many different creative outlets. On any given shoot, I’m not just taking photos. I’m thinking about hair and makeup, wardrobe, set design, lighting, and how all of those elements come together to tell someone’s story. That variety is what has kept me engaged and inspired over the years.
When I first started, I experimented with several different types of photography before eventually finding my stride working with business owners. That shift changed everything. I realized that photographing entrepreneurs and professionals was not only creatively fulfilling, but also profitable and deeply aligned with my strengths. Those sessions require a lot of creative problem-solving. Understanding someone’s brand, translating who they are into visuals, and helping them show up confidently in their business is something I genuinely love.
If I could change anything, it wouldn’t be when I started, but how I showed up in the early years. I wish I had begun valuing myself and my work sooner. Developing a positive money mindset and confidence around pricing took time, but once that shift happened, my business grew in leaps and bounds. Confidence has been one of the biggest catalysts for growth in my career.
Starting earlier without that self-belief wouldn’t have served me, and starting later might have delayed important lessons that shaped the business I have today. In hindsight, the timing was right, and the growth came exactly when I was ready for it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m a photographer and studio owner based in Bend, Oregon, specializing in high-end headshots and personal branding photography for business owners and entrepreneurs. I’ve always been a creative person, but I was drawn to photography because it offered so much room for growth and variety. It blends artistry with strategy, problem-solving, and human connection, which has kept me deeply engaged in this work over the long term.
Every entrepreneur brings a different story, personality, and goal to the table, and my job is to translate all of that into imagery that feels authentic, confident, and intentional. That process requires far more than just technical skill. It requires listening, planning, and a strong understanding of branding and marketing.
Today, my studio offers a full-service branding photography experience. That includes professional hair and makeup, wardrobe guidance, detailed planning, brand strategy support, and fully directed shoots. My clients are often successful, driven people who know their work is valuable but feel unsure about how to visually communicate that online. I help solve that problem by creating images that feel like them and work hard for their business. These are photos designed to build trust, elevate perception, and support real marketing goals.
What sets my work apart is that I don’t approach photography as a standalone service. I see it as part of a larger brand ecosystem. I think deeply about how images will be used, where they will live, and how they will support a client’s visibility and growth over time. My goal is for clients to walk away not only with beautiful photos, but with clarity and confidence in how to show up for their brand.
I’m most proud of the community I’ve built around my studio and the trust my clients place in me. Many of them return year after year as their businesses evolve, and that long-term relationship is something I value deeply. I want potential clients to know that working with me is collaborative, intentional, and empowering. This is about more than looking good in photos. It’s about helping people see their own value and show up for their work with confidence.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I believe my reputation has been built through consistency, intention, and genuinely caring about my clients’ outcomes. From the beginning, I focused on creating an experience that felt thoughtful and elevated, not transactional. People remember how they’re treated, and I’ve always prioritized making clients feel seen, supported, and confident throughout the entire process.
Another key factor has been word of mouth. Many of my clients are business owners, and when they have a great experience and see real results from their photos, they naturally share that with their networks. Referrals and repeat clients have played a huge role in growing my business, and that trust is something I take very seriously.
I’ve also been intentional about showing up consistently in my local business community. Building relationships, collaborating with other professionals, and staying visible has helped me become a familiar and trusted name in my market. Over time, that consistency compounds.
Lastly, I’ve been very clear about who my work is for and what I offer. I don’t try to be everything to everyone. By specializing in headshots and personal branding photography for business owners, I’ve been able to refine my process, deliver a higher level of service, and create work that truly resonates with the clients I serve. That clarity has made it easier for people to understand my value and recommend me with confidence.

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
My strongest source of new clients has consistently been Google. I’ve invested years into SEO and building a website that clearly communicates what I offer and who it’s for. That long-term effort has paid off by bringing in highly qualified clients who are actively searching for my services and already understand the value of what I do.
In-person networking and referrals are a close second. Building real relationships within my local business community has been incredibly important, and word of mouth has played a major role in my growth. When clients have a great experience and feel confident in their photos, they’re naturally excited to share that with others.
Repeat clients are another significant source of work for me. Many of the business owners I photograph return as their brands evolve or as their teams grow, and I see that as a strong indicator that the work is serving them well over time.
Organic social media and email marketing come next. These platforms allow me to stay visible, educate my audience, and maintain relationships, but they’ve been more about nurturing trust than generating immediate bookings. Paid ads have played a smaller role for me overall and tend to work best as a supplemental strategy rather than the foundation of my business.
That mix of long-term visibility, relationship-building, and consistency has been key to attracting the right clients.
