We were lucky to catch up with Minon Maier recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Minon thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
A defining moment in my career occurred in 2008 when a colleague introduced me to EMDR. At the time, I was working in a residential facility with adolescents and supporting a client who felt deeply stuck in their trauma. I had utilized every intervention in my clinical toolbox, yet despite my efforts, we weren’t seeing the breakthrough we hoped for.
A colleague offered to facilitate EMDR with the client and invited me to observe and collaborate in several sessions. What I witnessed was remarkable. After EMDR, the client’s affect shifted, their reactivity decreased, and they began engaging in treatment with a level of openness and stability I hadn’t seen before. It felt as though a door had finally opened.
Seeing that transformation changed the course of my professional path. I pursued formal EMDR training in 2008 and 2009 and have been integrating it into my practice ever since. That experience solidified my commitment to trauma-focused work. Today, helping clients heal from trauma is not only one of my specialties but it is one of my deepest professional passions.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am the owner and founder of Maier Counseling and Wellness. I started my practice in the summer of 2020 and it has grown into a group practice with amazing team members that have exceptional clinical skills in order to serve all clients..
At Maier Counseling & Wellness, we provide compassionate, evidence-based therapy rooted in safety, connection, and meaningful growth. Our practice offers individualized support for children, teens, adults, couples, and families, helping clients navigate life’s challenges in an environment that is supportive, non-judgmental, and tailored to each person’s unique experience.
We specialize in trauma-informed therapy, relational healing, and attachment work, drawing from modalities like EMDR, Brainspotting, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and family systems approaches to help clients heal past wounds, break unhelpful patterns, and build more fulfilling connections.
Our team’s areas of expertise include:
✨ Individual & trauma therapy focused on helping people process emotional injuries, reduce distressing symptoms, and feel more regulated and empowered in their lives.

✨ Couples & family therapy focused on strengthening communication, attachment, and relational resilience using proven systems-based approaches.
✨ Neurodiversity support & assessments: offering structured, affirming care for clients navigating developmental and cognitive differences.
✨ LGBTQ+ affirmative therapy & identity support that creates a space where individuals can explore identity, relationships, and authenticity without judgment.
✨ Specialized care for first responders, veterans with trauma-informed understanding and flexible service options.
Our clinicians include licensed therapists that work collaboratively to ensure each client feels seen, respected, and empowered to make lasting change. We offer both in-person care in Scottsdale, AZ and HIPAA-compliant telehealth.
At Maier Counseling & Wellness, healing isn’t one-size-fits-all. It’s a personalized journey grounded in trust, expertise, and authentic human connection.

If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
If I could choose my career again, I would wholeheartedly choose to be a therapist. I genuinely love the work. Collaborating with talented colleagues and walking alongside clients as they heal and grow is an incredible privilege. Being part of someone’s healing journey is not something I take lightly. It’s a responsibility, a privilege, and truly one of the greatest honors of my life.

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I believe the most effective way to attract and grow our clientele is by consistently providing high-quality, ethical care. When clients experience meaningful healing and real change, they naturally share their positive experiences with friends, family members, and others in their community. The majority of our referrals come through word of mouth, which I believe is a true reflection of the integrity and clinical excellence of our work.
Another important factor in growing our practice is cultivating strong, collaborative relationships with other therapists and psychiatrists. When colleagues trust us with their referrals and see the quality of care we provide, those partnerships continue to grow. For me, sustainable growth has always been rooted in trust, results, and professional collaboration rather than marketing alone.
