We were lucky to catch up with Mingeon Jang recently and have shared our conversation below.

Mingeon, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. If you could go back in time do you wish you had started your creative career sooner or later?

If I had engaged in music at a younger age, I believe I would have cultivated a much deeper understanding of it. More importantly, this profound understanding could have allowed for a broader and more diverse range of expressions in my musical journey. The emotions and imagination of a younger age possess a truly remarkable power.

Commencing my musical voyage at the age of 16, I often contemplate what might have unfolded if I had nurtured this passion at an even earlier stage. The pure curiosity and sensitivity of youth could have paved the way for much richer artistic expressions, undoubtedly influencing the person I am today.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I find myself immersed in the creation of music here in Korea. While lyrics are not always a prominent feature in my work, I am dedicated to delicately portraying the subtle emotions that accompany our everyday experiences. The resulting compositions may offer a distinctive feel, somewhat divergent from the more commonly encountered musical landscapes. There are moments when the emotions I infuse into my creations feel unfamiliar even to me.

Nevertheless, I am driven by the belief that by staying true to the sentiments I aim to express and consistently advancing in my artistic journey, I can bring joy to those who resonate with similar inclinations. It’s true, the path I’ve chosen often feels unconventional, and the sensations I evoke may not always align with mainstream expectations. Yet, there’s a profound satisfaction in embracing the courage to chart my own artistic course.

In the midst of this creative process, I frequently encounter instances where the emotions I’m trying to encapsulate are elusive, and the act of translating them into music becomes a unique challenge. Yet, it’s precisely these challenges that fuel my determination to continue. I find solace in the thought that, through my work, I can connect with kindred spirits who appreciate the nuanced expressions and emotions I aim to convey.

As I persist in my artistic endeavors, I am reminded that it’s not just about the music itself but the shared experience and connection it fosters. It’s about touching hearts, evoking emotions, and creating a space where others can find resonance in the art I passionately craft. This belief, in turn, propels me forward, providing the courage to embrace the uncertainties that come with being a creator in the realm of music, trusting that each note and melody has the potential to make a meaningful impact on someone else’s journey.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?

Listening to people share their thoughts and emotions after experiencing my music is when the act of creating becomes most joyful and fulfilling for me. Witnessing individuals come together as a community, moved by the sounds that emanate from my fingertips, and openly sharing their emotions, I find an unparalleled sense of gratification. It’s in those moments when the power of music transcends individual experiences, creating a collective space for shared emotions and connections.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

Sometimes, I think about giving up on making music. It’s tough when things don’t turn out how I imagined. It feels like a constant struggle with myself. But then, I remember that others must be going through similar struggles. It’s a reminder that I’m not alone in this.

I know the challenges I face in my creative journey are probably felt by many. Everyone has their own problems and battles. It’s a shared experience, and knowing that makes me feel better. We’re all on our own paths, dealing with similar tough times, but still moving forward.
