We recently connected with Mike C and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Mike, thanks for joining us today. Are you happier as a business owner? Do you sometimes think about what it would be like to just have a regular job?
As a business owner, there are definitely moments when I’m both excited and overwhelmed by the challenges and opportunities that come with it. There’s a unique sense of pride in building something from the ground up, and the freedom to make decisions and create my own path can be incredibly fulfilling. The flexibility, in particular, is something I cherish—whether it’s setting my own hours or choosing the direction of my company.
That being said, there are days when I do wonder what it would be like to have a “regular” job—one where I could clock in, do my work, and then leave without worrying about everything else that comes with running a business. The constant responsibility, the pressure to perform, and the uncertainty of the future can feel exhausting at times. Having a clear boundary between work and personal life, something that often gets blurred as a business owner, can seem like a luxury.
But despite the challenges, the highs of entrepreneurship—whether it’s seeing a new project succeed or making an impact—usually outweigh the lows. It’s not always easy, but the journey of owning a business feels rewarding in ways that a regular job might not. And ultimately, it’s that sense of growth and accomplishment that makes me happy to be in this role, even if it comes with its ups and downs. But the sense of freedom and growth is what satisfies it all in the end.

Mike, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Absolutely, now there is only one Mike who is the CEO of Royal Group of Companies and who is also a normal human being. There are no split personalities with myself. I am a very straightforward but fair person. It all started with when how I was just a regular engineer doing a 9-5 job earning a specific amount with rare increments. I always had the hustle inside of me to grow, not just financially but as a person too and bring change to a certain niche of business. Now as a music lover, I never had the voice to sing but my job brought me the communication skills I needed to start the music marketing business. Partnering up with my ‘non-biological” brother, Jay D, we took this not just as a challenge but having our first experience, we went all in to make this a hit.
I always wanted to grow, not alone, but as a team which was the most difficult part of growing the business. But as a believer, we made it! Started as a 2 man operation which is now a 24 man team that we run across 2 different continents. Our company’s motto speaks for itself, ‘Marketing with wisdom’ that only targets a fair and logical approach towards marketing. Music artists, lately have been scammed a lot by the promoters so coming into this field has always been a challenge. But as determined we were, our 4 years career has successfully made us to work with over 1000+ independent talented and satisfied artists. As a music marketing agency, Royal Music Marketing has had success in building artists with hefty revenues and solid fan bases. Providing a wide range of services including music marketing, social media marketing, PR, branding, web development, podcasting, and much more. The goal is to develop artists as brands in the industry.
Problems wise, our business has only suffered in building the right team for the right jobs. Our clients have been utterly satisfied with our work and they age back to the time we started our business. I guess my proudest moment about my work has been seeing my clients proud of their growth with us.
I would add here however, Royal Music Marketing is not just another company, it is a family. Our clients are part of our family and so we go out of our way for them and doing things the right way (organically) are the only things that separates us from all the other small time or big time companies. Professionalism, Transparency and Support, these 3 things sum us up.
I would want all the artists out there to know about not just me, but Royal Music Marketing which is a one stop shop to build artists and outshine their potential through our medium. We are not here just to profit off of you but growth according to myself is a mutual process. If I want my business to grow, that means I must help my clientele to grow. This is the only way to grow a business. So feel free to get in touch with us at any time of the year or you can always hit me up and talk to me for free @mikesmarketingworld :)

Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
An interesting story of my life – Part time workers at a small time marketing agency, Jay D and I were of different departments. I headed the sales where as my partner was heading the operations. Although I worked there for 3 months but Jay D & I bonded over smoking a cigarette and became friends. Despite we met after I left the agency, our friendship grew even stronger.
A random day & Jay D tells me that let us start a business, on the music side. I agreed and we started working while doing our ten hour jobs. Three months into it and there wasn’t any profits because we weren’t doing it with full force. 4th month in and things took a turn and we made good profits. The next month, profits doubled followed by the exact same the month after. That is when I decided to quit the job and focus fully on this. This is where Royal Music Marketing took off and ever since has been flying high in the sky!

How do you keep your team’s morale high?
The stage where we’re at having over 24 employees, we take them as our family. We plan monthly sports or dinners on good performances. Upon reaching targets, we take trips up north and this is only to keep our team intact and in high morale. I believe this is important as employees need refreshment just like us. These kinds of activities actually refreshens the minds of my team, helps them perform better and keeps them intact. However, as a CEO, there is one thing I don’t compromise on and that’s punctuality. I want the team to be disciplined, organized and be responsible which btw is the toughest thing to get out of a person. But still, I do manage to make them as disciplined as possible.
Other than that, I believe its important for the owner to gel in with the employees as their friend and it keeps them boosted in terms of their efficiency as well.
Secrets to managing a team and maintaining high morale is to treat them as like your own. Love them but scold them and when they’re morally down, motivate them by taking them outside of the office for some fun activities.
