We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michaela Moten a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Alright, Michaela thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?

The most meaningful project that I’ve worked on is with my Brother. I was staying in Vegas with him and during that time I was going through a lot things when I first got there everything was new and exciting and a little scary being away from home. Everything was going good and then I lost my job and it felt like everything was going downhill but during that time I was able to write and create and that’s how “Journey” was born. The meaning of the song is that life is a journey and we’re gonna go through things in life that we always don’t agree with good or bad but in end it’s all apart of the journey. We were all born to shine but sometimes go through things that dim our light and how we view ourselves. I’m so grateful that my brother allowed me to stay with him and grow individually and grow as siblings and also allowed me the freedom to create to this day that’s something that I will never take for granted because it means the world to me. Michaela, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

My career started at the young age of 2 singing in youth choirs and on the praise team at church. I’ve always been around music my whole life my Mom and Dad were the ones who influenced my love for music. My favorite genre of music is Old School R&B which how I got my nickname lol. I didn’t start singing on a professional level until I was 17 and I didn’t start recording until I was 19 but I always loved singing and I knew this is what I wanted to do. some of my work that I’ve done is under my former artist name Kayla Nicole Music my new artist name is Kadence which means rhythm and I definitely move to my own beat. My very first project was a collab with Omega Kao called “Late night drive” featuring me. And my very first Single is “What’s been on my mind” which is on Spotify and YouTube. And my latest project is called “Doin’ What I Want” by YoungLA the 2nd also featuring me.

Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?

I definitely wish I knew early on in my career how to mix and record on my own using logic or pro tools

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?

To be able to create, sing and perform full time without worry or care while being and inspiration all at the same time
