We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Michael Callejas a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Michael, appreciate you joining us today. Owning a business isn’t always glamorous and so most business owners we’ve connected with have shared that on tough days they sometimes wonder what it would have been like to have just had a regular job instead of all the responsibility of running a business. Have you ever felt that way?
I am happier as a business owner, but I’d be lying if I said I never thought about what it might be like to have a regular job. The last time that thought crossed my mind, it was rooted in a little bit of fear. Any entrepreneur can relate. There is often a waiting period before clients, sales, or calls start rolling in. In that gap, you have to stay mentally strong. It is a test of patience and trust in yourself.
Being an entrepreneur forces you to put in the work, seek the education, and apply what you have learned until you know without a doubt that you can deliver your product or service. From there, it becomes about marketing and trusting that if you consistently promote yourself and reach the right audience, the results will come. If you have a good product, a solid reputation, and you actively put yourself in front of the right people, you can create your own version of stability, though it is often more work than just clocking in somewhere.
For me, that extra work is worth it because it gives me agency over my life. I get to decide the culture, morals, and direction of my business, and I have to hold myself accountable to those choices. Entrepreneurship, when taken seriously, is the best path for self-development because it forces you to be self-reliant, adaptable, and resilient. It is not the easy route, but it is the one that lets me live on my own terms.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Michael Callejas, and I’m the founder of Atlas Media House, a creative agency built on the belief that great visuals and strong storytelling can transform a brand’s presence. My journey began in high school with nothing more than a camera, a love for capturing moments, and an instinct for telling stories visually. At first, I was photographing whatever was in front of me, from soccer matches with my own team to other school sports, and eventually my first paid gig came when a parent asked me to photograph their son at a local baseball rivalry game. That single job opened my eyes to the business side of photography.
From my senior year of high school through my sophomore year of college, I immersed myself in photography. By sophomore year, I had invested in courses, refined my skills, and built my monthly revenue to the point where I realized I could pay for my tuition through photography alone. Instead of continuing with my journalism track, I decided to go all in. That is when it became a true hustle, shooting headshots, creative portraits, live concerts, events, and working with artists, record labels, and other creative teams. I built systems to make my workflow efficient, and in doing so, I learned not only how to create compelling visuals, but also how to promote myself, advertise, and manage a business.
Today, Atlas Media House brings together all of those skills and connections. We create high-quality, strategic photo and video content for businesses ready to invest in their brand. Our services go beyond a one-off shoot. We offer ongoing content creation from scripting and shooting to editing and posting so that our clients can focus on running their business while we handle their media presence. Our ideal clients are brands that value quality, understand the long-term impact of their visual identity, and want to get it right from the start.
We specialize in both photography and videography, leveraging connections with talented videographers, editors, stylists, makeup artists, and niche specialists from automotive cinematographers to luxury brand storytellers. We are detail-driven, making sure every shoot captures not just an image, but the essence of the brand. We have worked with notable names and organizations such as former MLB player José Reyes and Qualm Auto, Urby.com’s community events, Embers Band, and a variety of service-based businesses from local soccer trainers to lifestyle brands.
What sets Atlas Media House apart is our enthusiasm, our hunger to create, and our ability to truly understand a client’s “why.” We do not just produce content. We help tell a story that aligns with the bigger picture of their business. We also believe in giving our clients back one of the most valuable assets they have: time. If we can remove the stress of social media, marketing, and visual production from their plate, they can focus on their family, their craft, and their business growth.
I am proud that Atlas Media House stands for both quality and integrity, and that we are building long-term relationships with clients who trust us to elevate their brand. We are here for those who are ready to invest in something lasting, because in our work, every image and every second of video says something about who you are.

Have you ever had to pivot?
The biggest pivot in my life came when I decided to leave college and go full-time with my business. I knew that in the long term this decision would save me money on tuition, but it was not a choice I took lightly. I had to sit down with my entire family, have honest and sometimes difficult conversations, and present a clear business plan for how I would make it work. Those conversations allowed me to speak openly about what I truly wanted, and once I made the decision, there was no turning back.
The first few months were challenging. I had no steady income, so I picked up a job at a restaurant to bring in extra cash. Interestingly, that restaurant later became one of my photography clients, and eventually I stopped taking shifts there as my business grew.
The biggest lesson from that experience was that it is okay to take a risk and pivot, even when it feels uncomfortable. You will always learn something valuable along the way. The transition from a structured life to one where everything depends on you was an adjustment. I had to master time blocking, prioritizing tasks, staying disciplined, and taking care of myself physically and mentally. Once I established a routine, I found freedom in the responsibility. That decision set the foundation for everything I have built since.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I built my audience on social media by keeping it simple in the beginning. I would post the photos I liked, add a short caption, and not overthink it. As I took more photos and worked with more people, I just kept sharing the work. Over time, platforms like Instagram changed, introducing new features such as Reels and short-form videos. I adapted by incorporating those formats, but the core approach stayed the same: consistently sharing what I was creating.
If you are in business and providing services, you already have opportunities to capture and share what you do. Whether it is behind-the-scenes moments, your creative process, client testimonials, or showing how you solve a specific problem in your industry, there is always valuable content you can post.
My advice for anyone starting to build their social presence is to start today. Do some quick research on what is working in your industry, but don’t let overthinking hold you back. Post regularly, even if it is not every day. Use stories to share updates about what you are doing. Find ways to provide value, whether that is through education, inspiration, or entertainment. And if you can, invest time or money into creating content that truly reflects your work. In today’s landscape, showing up online is essential.
