We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Melissa Sundwall a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Melissa, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to go back in time and hear the story of how you came up with the name of your brand?
As a mother of four boys, my youngest in high school, I sought a feminine and unique name. While vacationing in Seattle, I vividly remember standing in line at the Space Needle, brainstorming names with my sons. One of my older sons called at that moment and suggested “Analysta,” which he thought would be perfect for a female data analyst. I liked the name, but it felt more appropriate for a product in my business. Additionally, I wanted the name to incorporate “web” or “website,” leading to the creation of Analysta Web Design.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
From Ballerina to Business Builder
Who knew that shopping could be such a powerful catalyst for growth? During the pandemic, my casual exploration of Poshmark ignited a passion for data, algorithms, and resale strategies. As my digital closet, “The New U,” flourished to over 150,000 followers, I realized the immense potential of data-driven decision-making.
This newfound passion led me on a three-year journey of self-education, delving into Website Design & Development, Google Analytics, Conversion Copywriting, SEO, Data Measurement, Graphic Design, and more. Whenever I encountered a challenge, I would research solutions or seek expert guidance. This hands-on approach has equipped me with valuable skills and shaped my business into what it is today.
One course, in particular, ended up being a pivotal moment. It introduced me to a supportive group of four incredible women. We’ve been meeting weekly for four years, forming deep friendships and cheering each other on as our businesses have grown and evolved. Their unwavering support and accountability have been invaluable.
My journey from a ballerina to a tech whiz has fueled my passion for empowering female entrepreneurs. As a former professional ballerina with a BFA in Ballet, I understand the importance of discipline, dedication, and creating a solid foundation. I’m using my tech skills to help women build thriving online businesses.
I believe a well-designed website is more than just a pretty face. It’s a powerful tool that can attract customers, build credibility, and drive results. By combining my web design expertise with SEO and data visualization, I create websites that are not only visually stunning but also strategically optimized for success.
As a fellow woman in business, I recognize the distinct challenges we encounter and the aspirations we’re working hard to realize. I’m not merely a web designer but a collaborator in my client’s business success. Together, we can develop a website that embodies their brand, draws in their target audience, and drives business growth.
When I’m not building websites, you can find me cycling on my Peloton, spending time with my husband, four sons, and our energetic 9lb canine, Allie, or exploring my love for home organization, shopping, and decor ‘steals & deals.’

Can you share one of your favorite marketing or sales stories?
I’m a member of several online groups that offer a wealth of expertise and support. One group, in particular, is a hub for website designers. It’s a vibrant community of over 400 professionals, always ready to lend a helping hand.
One day, a seasoned website designer and mentor posted a question about a Google Analytics issue she was facing. I hesitated at first, thinking surely there must be someone more qualified in this group to assist her. But after two weeks, the post remained unanswered.
A spark ignited within me. I decided to take a leap of faith and offer my help. To my surprise, she responded immediately, outlining her needs and requesting a quote. As a fledgling business owner, I hadn’t yet established a client portal, finalized my contracts, or determined my pricing.
It was a whirlwind weekend of frantic preparations. I raced against the clock to create a professional, organized, and polished presentation. Sleepless nights and crash courses in business systems became my reality. But in the end, my efforts paid off. Not only did I secure my first client, but I also gained valuable experience and positioned myself for future growth.

Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
Yes, Julia Taylor, the founder of WPRockstar and GeekPack, is my ultimate career inspiration. I’ll never forget the moment I discovered her and her business. It was like finding my tribe. Her story of self-taught web development and business growth is incredibly inspiring, and it feels so attainable to so many of us.
