Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Melanie Rodriguez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Melanie, appreciate you joining us today. Risking taking is a huge part of most people’s story but too often society overlooks those risks and only focuses on where you are today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – it could be a big risk or a small one – but walk us through the backstory.
The risk I took was starting my business and taking it seriously as a newly single mother with a 1 year old. I been working on building my business since late 2018 then I found out I was pregnant in early 2019 I was let go of my job in a waxing chain & decided to start working on building my own business. I was taking clients from home and trying to start up my dreams. After I had my daughter in October 2019 took a short break but then Covid happened & everything stopped.
I stop receiving clients since my daughter was a newborn and we went into lockdown. when things started to settle I had already went back to work at a regular retail job. I was going to just let my dreams go and focus on being a mother & wife. It wasn’t until early 2021 when my life turned upside down & I became a single mother. Trying to figure out my new life and new routine I knew I wanted to be able to have freedom to make my own schedule, to make my own decisions & to be more present for my daughter and i decided to take my confidence back & start up my business again and take it serious. In September 4th 2021 Pure Glow By Mel was born. A place where women, mothers, young adults can feel confident in their skin, loved & radiant.
Melanie, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Melanie Rodriguez, and I’ve been a licensed esthetician for over eight years. I’ve always had a passion for beauty from hair and makeup to nails and skincare. I originally went to cosmetology school with the goal of becoming a nail technician, but along the way I realized that nails weren’t my true calling. What I did fall in love with was skincare. That discovery led me to go back to school to earn my esthetician license.
Right after graduating, I began working at a popular waxing chain, where I quickly found my passion for body waxing. While I loved the work, I knew I wanted to offer more than just basic services and have the freedom to truly care for my clients’ skin on a deeper level. After some ups and downs, I opened Pure Glow By Mel in September 2021.
Today, I offer full body waxing with a specialty in Brazilian and brow services, as well as facial treatments like dermaplaning and Ombré Powder Brow permanent makeup. My goal is to provide exceptional service in a comfortable, welcoming environment where every client leaves feeling confident, cared for, and happy
In 2025, I expanded my brand by launching my own skincare products:

What sets me apart is my commitment to aftercare and skin health. My job doesn’t end when your wax is finished I focus on helping you maintain healthy skin between appointments for better results and longer lasting waxes. I’ve worked with clients who have conditions such as PCOS and HS, and I’m proud to have helped them achieve great results through proper waxing and skincare routines.
My Brazilian services are unique because I automatically include Hydro Jelly Masks after every wax to soothe irritation, calm the skin, and restore hydration.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Expanding my network in being a small business owner going to different networking events, meeting new people being able to step out of my comfort zone and talk. Just be myself when people see you’re just a person like them it helps build a stronger bond in the community of small business owners & with your clients.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
If you are a first time client I always automatically give 15% off their service as a thank you for trusting me for coming to get a service done by me. After 24 hours I reach out and personally ask how they are feeling after the service they received facial, waxing etc.. & if they have any questions. They also are automatically given a digital loyalty card in their profile that will automatically stamp for them after every service.
