Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?

I have a huge respect for my parents. I am fortunate to have been raised by parents who have consistently set me up for success by instilling in me both confidence in myself and a growth mindset. From a young age, they encouraged me to believe in my abilities and talents, emphasizing that I could achieve anything I set my mind to. They celebrated my achievements and provided constructive feedback during setbacks, emphasizing that failure was an opportunity for learning and growth. They taught me the importance of perseverance, resilience, and embracing challenges as stepping stones towards personal development. As a child, most of this teaching took place in the context of sports, but was easily transferred to business, later in life. With their unwavering support and belief in my potential, my parents have fostered a deep sense of self-confidence and an unwavering belief that I can continuously improve and excel in any endeavour I pursue. Their guidance has not only shaped my mindset but also empowered me to approach life with determination, adaptability, and a lifelong thirst for knowledge.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?

My name is Megan Maundrell, a wedding photographer who has made a significant impact in the industry. With a deep passion for capturing the beauty and emotions of weddings, since starting in 2017, I have established myself as a go-to professional in the field. Alongside my team of skilled associate photographers, I ensure that each couple’s special day is immortalized through captivating and heartfelt images. My expertise lies in creating a fun and comfortable atmosphere during photo sessions, allowing my clients to relax and be themselves, resulting in authentic and natural photographs. With an impressive track record of over 100 five-star reviews, our dedication to the craft and unwavering commitment to exceeding expectations shine through in my teams work. Through our lenses, we craft timeless memories that reflect the love, joy, and unique essence of every wedding we capture.

What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?

In 2017 when I dropped out of university to pursue photography, I was making no more than a few hundred bucks a month. I always had big dreams of being a 6-figure full time photographer, and was hungry to learn everything that would help me get there. I began doing a photo project where I photographed 30 love stories in 30 days. This is what really kickstarted my journey and allowed me to go full time. Shortly after, I moved to a different city and had to start from scratch. This was a difficult season, but taught me more methods for growing my business. In 2022, I’m happy to say that I did reach that goal of making 6-figures!

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?

COVID was difficult for all of us, especially wedding vendors! All of our income was cancelled, and refunds were requested. During this time, I moved back home to relieve some of the stress. Although it was stressful, I wouldn’t trade that experience for the world! The space of discomfort birthed the idea of starting a team of associate photographers and videographers, and is ultimately what lead me to earning 6 figures. You never know what blessings can come from extreme hardships!
