We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Johnston. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
I was working in the Orlando Florida area for 8 years. When my daughter was going to start school we decided being closer to the midwest was best option for our family. I left a great business that I had built, and a non profit to move to a non metropolitan area and start an academy at big cedar lodge.
This was taking a chance on my social media being able to fill my lesson book with golf schools and guests traveling into our resort to take golf lessons. It was taking a bet on myself, my skills, moving to a new part of the country and proving I could start over without feeling like I’m going backwards in my career.
What I found was an amazing supportive team of people I know call my friends not just my colleagues. I found an amazing property with so much potential. We are just getting started and I’m so excited for what this is going to turn into.
I’ve never felt more at home, and more confident in a decision that will not only help my career but my family, and the risk was 100% worth it, even tho it was terrifying at the time.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your background and context?
Originally from Northern Ireland, played college golf in the Midwest and then proceeded to move to Arizona to play mini tour golf. Here I met a mentor called Tim Mahoney who truely sparked my love for teaching golf.
From here I moved to Florida and built a great following of clients before expanding online, I found a niche and ran with it, when I truely didn’t know what I was doing online.
I’m now pga and lpga certified, lpga top 50 teacher, golf digest best young teacher, and I’m at my dream facility meeting wonderful clients every day. I get guests from all walks of life and I get to develop college and great high schoolers too

What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
Social media, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok have given me insane oppertunities to work with big brands, travel and run golf schools and now bring clients to me as I’m at a 5 star resort

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being a female in a male dominated space, being true and authentic to myself and my beliefs online.
