We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Mariana Manjarrez a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.

Hi Mariana, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?

So, picture this: I jumped into esthetician school, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed, ready to conquer the world of body sculpting. Fast forward four months, and my instructor says, “Oh, sweet child, we don’t teach that here.” Cue the dramatic music! My mom, being the ever-wise sage, urged me to stick it out—after all, I was just two months away from that shiny diploma!Honestly I’ve always envisioned myself owing a business I love sales and enjoy helping others. I knew these qualities would be fabulous in an esthetician business.

But let’s be real; I was on a quest for the Holy Grail of esthetics, and I wanted to dabble in everything! Facials? Check. Waxing? Double check. Brows? Oh, honey, let’s not even go there. It was so hard. I either couldn’t find clients or realized I just wasn’t feeling the vibe. One day, I had an epiphany and asked a colleague how much she’d charge to teach me the mystical art of sugaring. When she said $300, I thought, “What?! For intimate sugaring,perfect?!” .But little did I know, this was going to be my golden ticket!

I jumped into the world of Instagram advertising, and let’s just say, my creativity was put to the test. I got flagged for content that was a bit too spicy—who knew promoting sugaring would be so scandalous? It’s tough to showcase your work without showing *exactly* what you do, but I learned to channel my inner diva and let my personality shine through my videos. Who needs boring when you can have fabulous, right?

Now, let’s talk about the delicate nature of the business. I totally get how vulnerable you can feel during those appointments. I never rush things—if you need a timeout, I’m all about that! Spoiler alert: I might even scream a little during sessions, but it’s all in good fun!

But here’s the kicker: when I see someone leave my studio with a huge smile and a boost of confidence, my heart does a happy dance! Knowing that I played a part in that transformation? Priceless. Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

Alright, friends, let’s get real for a moment! I recently hit a little bump in the road when I found out I actually can’t perform body sculpting, despite having my esthetician license. I thought, “No biggie, right?” But then the state board decided to drop the news that someone reported me. Cue the dramatic gasp! It was a pretty emotional rollercoaster, especially since body sculpting made up half of my income. But you know what? This setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise, making me even stronger and more determined than ever! All it showed me is i was doing really well and someone had to go rain on my parade. People throw rocks at things that shine and I’ve been shining baby.

I rolled up my sleeves and made sure everything is in tip-top shape . While it’s bittersweet to say goodbye to body sculpting (it was my baby!), I’m genuinely excited about where my business is headed now. Sometimes you have to pivot to find your true path, and trust me, the best is yet to come! Let’s keep those positive vibes flowing and look forward to all the incredible things ahead!

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?

When it comes to promoting myself on social media, I’ve learned that there’s no “right” way to do it; you just have to be your fabulous self! I love to sprinkle in some humor, and let me tell you, making silly TikTok videos about sugaring has really struck a chord with people. It’s all about letting loose and being relatable!

Now, when it comes to my facial content, I switch gears a bit. I want to invite you into a cozy, relaxing environment where you can unwind and indulge while I work my magic to deliver those fabulous results. Seriously, if you have an idea—go for it!
