Mariah, appreciate you joining us today. Can you tell us a story about a time you failed?

Throughout the 29 years of my life I’ve experienced many setbacks, trials, and obstacles. Since I was 18 I worked for 9-5 jobs but I always had the mindset of an entrepreneur and never felt at ease.

Life circumstances played a huge part in my journey. Before I got married I was a single mother trying to keep a roof over me and my daughter’s head working and going to medical school.

I failed to finish 2 schools. One to be an esthetician and two to be a medical assistant. I noticed the pattern in my life that every time I started something I never finished it. I use to look at it as if only I had more support or more motivation I would’ve achieved my goals. When truly all along it was me standing in my own way, most importantly in God’s way in what He was trying to do in my life.

I have great faith in the God of heaven and I walk through life in a spiritual way so I see everything as a sign and the things that happens in our life is what is supposed to happen for a specific purpose. I realized I allowed fear, doubt, and the opinions of others to keep me from walking into my purpose and using my gifts and talents turning it into a career to serve others and letting my light shine.

Beauty and makeup has always been a passion of mine amongst other things and although I’ve had those setbacks, I’ve learned from my mistakes and failures, even the disappointments and I continue to learn and grow. My plan and mission is to make others feel confident in who they are by enhancing their beauty through artistry as well as finding their true purpose, and identity. Lastly to achieve everything they were created to do here on this earth and never give up no matter what failures they may have. Life is truly to teach and humble us, to help us grow and to make us stronger. I am eager to share my journey as a makeup artist and entrepreneur and I encourage anyone to never lose hope and develop their faith because that is what will sustain us throughout our journey in this life.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

I am a makeup artist and entrepreneur currently located in Las Vegas, Nevada. the name of my brand is SOL BEAUTI CO. I chose this name because I believe true beauty is from the SOL (soul). Who you are, your character, and what makes you, YOU. I will soon be starting a cosmetics line providing cosmetic products & tools for your everyday essentials. Along with being a MUA, I hope to provide a great experience to future clients and customers from all over the world.

I took interest into the makeup & beauty industry as a teenager. I was always into makeup and as I got older I started watching makeup tutorials on YouTube and practicing makeup on myself as well as some family members. I always battled confidence on my ability and skills in this field but I pushed past that and attended school for esthetics and skin care. Unfortunately I did not finish school but I didn’t allow that to stop me. I started looking into makeup school when I moved from California to Nevada but decided to go a different route and eventually got my state license to be a makeup artist as well as making my own makeup tutorials online on TikTok and Instagram. My work was then noticed by more people on TikTok and that’s how I built my clientele overtime. I learned the highs and lows of a business owner very fast and understood that it takes consistency, perseverance, faith, and confidence to maintain a business especially in such a competitive industry like beauty.

I believe what sets me apart from others is my ability to thrive in any situation. To endure and to keep going. My faith and to see everything as a purpose here on this earth knowing it’s bigger than me on what I am doing in my business endeavors.

I am most proud of my growth and journey thus far knowing that hard work pays off and there is nothing better than stepping into your purpose, knowing you who are you, and what you possess on the inside.

The main things I want future clients and customers to know is I am one who takes pride in being professional willing to go above and beyond to meet the needs of others. My business is a space where you will feel cared for, treated with kindness, and feel seen and heard. Also my brand is faith based and purpose driven. To encourage, uplift, and refresh all.

How did you build your audience on social media?

I began to build an audience on TikTok. I believe TikTok business wise is a good platform to promote your business. I started posting consistently which attracted over 3,000 views on my makeup videos. The advice I would give is to stay consistent. Consistency truly is key into what you’re doing, as well as hard work and having a vision and plan. Lastly, knowing the platform algorithm and using the correct hashtags pertaining toward your brand.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?

A lesson I had to unlearn is the not needing anybody independent mindset. While it’s totally okay to be independent to a certain extent, having the right people in your corner is very important.. I have spent many times trying to do things and figure things out on my own when all along not realizing that extra support and resources is part of the key to my destiny. Someone else may know what you don’t know and have what you don’t have to help you on your journey supporting you along the way. We’re not meant to live this life alone. It’s okay to humble yourself and say I need help or I don’t know what I’m doing and open up to others who truly have your best interest at heart for support and the help needed.
