We were lucky to catch up with Mariah Harmon recently and have shared our conversation below.
Mariah, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Are you happy as a creative professional? Do you sometimes wonder what it would be like to work for someone else?
I have had regular jobs before and even worked while being an influencer but I do feel happier just being a creative/artist. I enjoy setting my own schedule and having more free time to relax and have other hobbies. If I need a day off for any reason I have the ability to give it to myself. The only thing that can be tough about not having a regular job is not having a fixed income. I have had to sacrifice somethings like going on trips and some frivolous spending. I try to remind myself that life is precious and you should try to spend it doing the things you love.

Mariah, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Hi, my name is Mariah Harmon and I am a social media influencer. My niches are fashion, lifestyle, and women empowerment.
I got into social media influencing during Covid in 2020. I created a TikTok and started seeing other women doing fashion videos and it inspired me to start trying my own fashion videos. I have always loved fashion but I was always busy with soccer, as I’ve been an athlete my whole life, and I would mostly find myself wearing athletic clothes. So, during events or nights out I would love to get dressed up, and I would use those opportunities to really express my self which helped me find my space in fashion.
I hope to empower women to be their authentic selves, full of self love. I hope that I provide a safe space for women on my platforms. I aim to embolden women to make fashion choices free of judgement, and I hope to encourage women to bet on themselves.
I’m proud of myself for how far I’ve come, how much I’ve grown, and how I haven’t given up on myself. Especially in this line of work. I want people to come to my page and feel like I’m your best friend, find community in girlhood, and also get fashion inspiration/advice.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding aspect for me is the community. I have connected with so many talented and incredible women, some of which have to lead to life long friendships.

How can we best help foster a strong, supportive environment for artists and creatives?
Society can support all creators by not indulging in big businesses. Find smaller brands and creators. Make sure to support your friends and their creative work. Bring back community and stop using AI, ChatGPT, etc…
