Maria, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Was there a defining moment in your professional career? A moment that changed the trajectory of your career?
Even a simple tattoo can be one of the most memorable for those wearing it. I realized I have a huge impact on people getting their first tattoos or even a memorial piece for sure. People will always remember how you made them feel and I’m grateful they trust me and come back for more. This ancient practice is very special.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always loved drawing and painting growing up, I remember my first time entering the art class room in elementary school I felt so inspired and wanted to go back all the time. I got into the industry by paying 3k to a shop that gave me the basics. I didn’t know other artists really and had to find a way in. This was in 2017. I quickly realized I needed an apprenticeship and landed on a great opportunity to run an established shop while also learning the trade. It was a lot of discipline and late nights. In the end it set me up for success and can count on myself to make it happen and push myself to not give up. I’m most proud of my love for learning and growing so quickly in this industry. I have a true passion for it and nobody can stop me! I believe tattooing should be accessible to everybody who really wants to dedicate time into this beautiful craft
Any advice for managing a team?
The way you treat the people around you and clients is what truly matters at the end of the day. Nobody wants to be around a grump. Leave the ego behind.
Do you think you’d choose a different profession or specialty if you were starting now?
Yes! I am very happy I was resilient and chose myself and what makes me happy.
