Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Maria Davis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Maria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
There’s a lot of risks a person will take. In my case, it was reaching out to other producers that had a similar sound to me for a collaboration. Most of the time I never heard anything back, and sometimes I would be told “no” for one reason or another. It’s pretty disheartening, and I was about to give up on the idea of collaborating until I decided to contact one more person. One day while listening to Pandora, a song came on by the artist, 7and5. It was absolutely beautiful music and was similar to what I produce. Needless to say, after listening to several songs, I was hooked.
At first, I was very hesitant to contact the artist for a collaboration after being previously shot down so many times. I genuinely enjoyed their music and if I received a negative response, I certainly wouldn’t enjoy the music as much because I’d have that rejection in the back of my mind. However, it was the best move I could have made.
I received a reply, and long story short, a few months later we released the very popular single, “Endless”. Since then, John Nixon (7and5) has added his two cents to my single “Ebb and Flow”, and we are currently working on a project that started out as an EP, but has now moved into album territory. I hope to have it released by the beginning of summer. This is why you never give up and keep pushing for what you want to achieve. The success from that first collaborative single helped my music get heard by a whole new crowd, and it created a great friendship as well.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I have always played music, but I never distributed it. It wasn’t until 2020 when I began to release my music. Before that I was (and still am) in filmmaking, particularly aerial cinematography. When the pandemic hit, work in film was nearly non-existent and I didn’t have a backup plan for income. So during the pandemic I worked on establishing a name for myself across streaming sites, and produced music full time in addition to working a regular job.
Since I began distributing my music, some amazing things have happened. I became an award winning music producer, and have been accused many times of bringing electronic music to a whole new level. I fit well in the electronic/chillout genre, with some overtones of trance and new age.
In 2022 I became the recipient of the FWC Music & Video Award for my song, “Cowboy”. In addition, the music video for Cowboy was filmed and directed by me, and has also won several awards and nominations. The same can be said about the music video for the song, “In Every Way”, which was filmed in Malibu California and features Hollywood actor, Paul Lincoln Alayo.
I have worked with several other artists, including but not limited to; 7and5, Michael Goodluck, and KC Lyon. KC is the lead vocalist for the band, Postmordia, and even though he may scream in a thrash metal band, when it comes to collaborating with me, he creates the most awesome soft vocals.
My music is inspired by artists such as Pink Floyd, Vangelis, Enigma and ATB. It’s funny to say but ever since I originally collaborated with the artist 7and5, I can safely say that his music has now become an inspiration as well. I have been featured across several social media platforms, online shows, and radio stations including Mystic Broadcast Radio, SineFM in Doncaster UK, EaglesNest Radio and Outworld Sounds just to name a few.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Share share share! It means more than anything to get shares of the music on social media. Hitting that like button does wonders because it helps an artist get seen. All social media sites are run by an algorithm. The more likes and shares an artist gets, the more chances they have of reaching a new audience because the algorithm sees the content as “popular”. When an artist posts all over their social media about a new release, and hardly receives any likes and shares, not only is it devastating to the artist, but it prevents new people from discovering something they may really like. Also, follow on streaming sites. This helps get the music noticed more, and the chances of a song getting picked up by an editorial playlist increases drastically. It really does mean the world to music producers!

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Despite the pandemic happening which got me to produce music full time, my goal has remained the same. I am not looking to be rich and famous. I’ll take financially stable which is what a lot of people really want. Truth is, I am doing everything I can to help my Mom get her own house where she doesn’t have to worry about a landlord deciding to raise the rent, or kick her out just to double the cost of the rent to someone new. My mom is a Vietnam era Veteran of the US Army. After her discharge, she worked at the VA as a respiratory therapist saving other veterans lives for over 25 years. She’s now 70 years old on a medical retirement, and without going into any details why she isn’t a homeowner, I know that possibility will not happen for her unless I make it happen. So, that is my driving force. To somehow give my Mom a home of her own so she will never have to rent again.
