We recently connected with Marco Aguirre and have shared our conversation below.
Marco , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I think the time I decided to start my production company, Soul Prophet Productions. I just had a falling out with business partner and friend. I wasn’t sure where to go or what to do. Then I remembered I had this script I finished and a love for this industry.
I decided to produce the short script into a short film called “Umbra” I was scared to ask people to help me out with this project. But I asked for help and got it.
By this time I’ve only been an actor and only had minimal experience behind the camera. The journey was a crazy one for sure, but for my first film, everything ran smoothly.
The risk I took paid off, the military experience I had really helped me be the captain of the ship. Leadership skills came to play and being motivated, motivated other. I’ve taken a lot of risks in my life, some more positive than others. But I’m blessed to live another day.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I started out going to school for music at Salem State University. Unfortunately I wasn’t the best trumpet player. But I always loved the instrument and still play, especially when I compose any type of music for film. I used my education in music to guide me through the process of film composition.
Knowing that I’d never become a Wynton Marsalis or Miles Davis, I stayed in this sort of depression, now that I reflect. I wasn’t sure what depression felt like at that time. But I was going through it.
Until I watched an episode of Breaking Bad on Netflix. I binged that show in a week. And the character development of Walter White….changed my world. I wanted to be a writer.
So I decided to minor in Theatre Performance. Met a professor who believed in me and from their my passion for the arts and school reinvigorated. I booked more acting gigs in college than I ever did for Trumpet.
I was blessed because I was really close to dropping out.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I think to just get out of the rat race of life. I tell everyone this, If I become one of those directors that just makes B/C list movies, Id be content.
They’re still making 5 to 6 figures!
We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
We should invest into actual artist.
Not throwing shade to my serious digital artist, They should have a platform for themselves.
The market now is over saturated with Social Media Influencers either scamming or rug pulling.
