Hi Marchell, thanks for joining us today. How did you come up with the idea for your business?

I was deeply inspired by the natural healing traditions of my Jamaican and Panamanian roots. From a young age, I learned to trust the power of plants, fruits, and herbs—not just as remedies, but as essentials for vibrant living.

In 2020, my life changed forever. I was a single mother, laid off from my job, and struggling with depression. I felt lost—until I rediscovered myself through skincare. It became my ritual, my therapy, and my path back to God and my purpose.

But my skin told its own story: Dark circles, uneven tone, and painful reactions to store-bought products left me hiding behind makeup daily. I knew there had to be a better way—a cleaner, kinder approach to skincare.

So I returned to what I knew best: the wisdom of my ancestors. I began creating formulas in my kitchen, using natural ingredients from my heritage. That curiosity grew into years of research, collaboration with chemists, aestheticians and dermatologists, and an unwavering commitment to clean, vegan, effective ingredients.

The results spoke for themselves. My skin transformed. My confidence returned. And when friends and family took notice, I knew it was time to share these solutions with the world.

GOD is the foundation immune system and antibody of LOHV ESSENTIALS so it was important to me to tithe within each LOHV ESSENTIALS purchase we donate a hygiene product to Atlanta mission women’s shelter. It truly warms my heart when I receive messages from my LOHV’s telling me how much of a difference they have seen in their skin since they’ve started using my products and how they feel confident in their skin now because of LOHV ESSENTIALS products. It feels amazing to be growing an impactful movement, to transforming skin, enhancing confidence within to tithing and donating hygiene essentials. Every day I wake up I feel complete because I know that I’m living in my purpose that God has called me too

Have you ever had to pivot?

In 2019 I was in the middle of a law suit against me, I got laid off my job (selling new construction homes for a builder), my ex broke up with me, I lost friends, I totaled my car and went to jail. I lost it all. I had no choice but to turn to GOD. And that’s exactly what I did! I prayed to GOD “I surrender to you father GOD, none of me all of you. I repent for all of my sins. Not my will but your will for my life. Lead and guide me to the purpose and calling that you have over my life.” The next morning I woke up with the entire vision for LOHV ESSENTIALS, the logo and packaging. Feeling led to lean into skincare and how I overcame my insecurities to being confident in the skin I’m in. That’s when I took the biggest pivot of my life from 7 years of Real Estate experience to LOHV ESSENTIALS Vegan Skincare 5 years and growing in business. Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?

LOHV ESSENTIALS first trade show was the essence festival. This was my first tradeshow I’ve ever done and I was so nervous. During the process leading up to the Essence festival after I paid for my booth I was never contacted, assigned a booth number or given any loading instructions. The day before showtime something inside of me kept pulling me to go anyway, even though Essence festival didn’t send my booth number or loading instructions yet. So I packed up my sprinter with all of my products my mom and I drove down to New Orleans on Faith that GOD was going to open doors for my business. I never told my mom that I didn’t have a booth number because I knew if I told her she would be worried and not come with me so I didn’t tell her anything. I then made it to the Essence festival to check LOHV ESSENTIALS in. I was so nervous my hands were dripping sweat. The representative checking everyone in, then walked up to me and said. “Yes, LOHV ESSENTIALS.” I immediately started screaming, and my mom was looking at me crazy she didn’t understand why I was so surprised. Later on that night when we got back to the hotel, I then explained to her that LOHV ESSENTIALS never was assigned a booth number and that we drove all the way to New Orleans on faith. She then said to me. “ you are lien, I could kill you.” (She was joking, of course.) I knew she was going to be upset. That’s exactly why I didn’t tell her. Even though there were no signs of my business being apart of the Essence festival trade-show that year I was able to stand strong and keep my faith alive.
