We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Marcellous Lindsley . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Marcellous below.
Marcellous , appreciate you joining us today. I’m sure there have been days where the challenges of being an artist or creative force you to think about what it would be like to just have a regular job. When’s the last time you felt that way? Did you have any insights from the experience?
Yes, I can say that I see and feel the energy flow through me differently when I am pursuing something that is a passion versus doing something just to do it. I’ll always put your best foot forward, but if I am passionate about something I’m giving more than 110%. I do because I still have a job to support me through school, and the beginning phases of my career. I was working to support my career, but was still in school at the same time so some nights I’d have to sleep in the car. It made me more ambitious cause it showed how much I really want to pursue this passion as a career. The conclusion I came to was that I need to do more things for myself.
Marcellous , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I started off freshman year in college, and I had met someone who become really close to me, like a big brother basically. He put me on to DJing, but I had already been on the rap scene, and doing poetry getting my name around so I decided to put all my talents in one. Go all in nonstop to make it by any means. I bring lyricism to another level with my writing. Essentially bringing real hip hop back into play, and not just street or club bangers. My poetry provides deep cuts to the mind and heart upon the dissection of the writing itself. I can always read a room and curate the best vibe possible for any event and occasion when it comes to getting on the ones and twos. I always make sure to take risks, and be open minded; which allows me to even present myself differently amongst the majority. I am most proud of the persistence I have kept to keep going. There’s always obstacles that allow people to stop. I want the fans to know that I’ll always grow and elevate, but staying myself is something that people recognize the most about me.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being allowed a continuous source of expression.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
It was Sophomore/Junior year and I had an outstanding balance from school. I had saved up all my money to invest in equipment and ended up having to pay for school out that savings. It pushed me back for a while because I support myself financially so it wasn’t like I could just go ask for help. It felt like my back was against the wall until I had paid it off.
