We were lucky to catch up with Malisa Lewis recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Malisa thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Going back to the beginning – how did you come up with the idea in the first place?
While I was in college, I had an assignment to create a book or a game for an elementary physical education course. I chose the book. The Book was called Grow Tater, Tot Grow. I illustrated the pictures and added the physical education terms required for the assignment. Per the rubric, I had to align the book with the elementary physical education standards. Years later I took that book, self-published it, created a curriculum for it, and started selling it.
Thirteen years later in 2024, I started my business. I started Inspirastar to use my philosophies to educate children. I teach children and create content for kids. This year I’ve made more money and helped more students become academically confident.
I do not think you ever really know that your entrepreneurship is worth it until you see results. Kids are not the future, they are the present and a present. That’s why I started this business. I felt that this business was worth it because I want kids to see themselves in a positive light despite their environment or background.

Malisa, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is Malisa. I’m a teacher, musician, cook. Just an all-around creative. I like to think, If it’s artsy I can do it! I started creating content for kids in 2014 as a teacher. I started creating content for kids because I had to. I was w working as a private school teacher in a city near Atlanta, Georgia and I had to create the curriculum for the subjects I was teaching. The teacher before me had created some content, but I had to revamp it and make it standard-based. Equating the public standards with the private school objectives.
In my business, we want to teach the whole child. We create content and lessons that bring healing to children. Our motto is helping kids shine bright academically and physically. We do this through assessments, games, and individualized lesson plans.
I’m most proud that we see changes in the lives of the kids we help. The kids become more confident and smarter. We motivate the kids to become their better selves. And when they see the changes that have come as a result of our business, they are forever changed

What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
My overall goal is to make an impact in the lives of my students. I can recall feeling dumb as a kid. I felt like an inadequate student. Though my grades were good, I never believed I was smart enough. I would work hard on different subjects and miss passing tests by points. In middle and high school, I was placed in remediation classes, which further empowered the negative conversation playing in my mind.
It wasn’t until much later in life that I believed I could accomplish anything that was in my path. I used positive affirmations and advice from friends to conquer the fear of failure. That’s what drives me. I see myself in the kids I teach and desire to see them win in life, not just academically.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
It is extremely rewarding when I see the students I assist thrive. I enjoy seeing my students become more confident and assured of themselves.
