We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Maivena Gaye a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Maivena , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
My journey didn’t start with certainty, it started with a calling.
Before I ever believed I could do it, God already knew who I was meant to become. While others were choosing safe and predictable paths, something deeper kept pulling on my spirit. It wasn’t just interest or curiosity. It was a calling I couldn’t ignore.
God called me to become an artist before I even knew I was capable of that level of creativity. I stepped into the art field with blind faith, trusting the path even when I couldn’t see the destination. And when I began creating, something incredible happened, I came to the realization that God anointed my hands.
Art started flowing out of me in ways I never imagined.
Only a few months in, I was creating work that once felt impossible for me to make. The same hands that I once doubted were now shaping beauty, emotion, and meaning onto the canvas.
Some people warned me.They said many artists fail. They spoke about the risks, the struggle, the uncertainty. But I always remind them of something they don’t understand: just because others fail doesn’t mean I’m destined to fail.
My destiny was co-signed by God.
And when God writes your story, failure doesn’t get the final word.
Through every brushstroke, every idea, and every moment of doubt, I know I’m not walking alone. I have Jesus guiding me every step of the way, strengthening my faith, sharpening my vision, and reminding me why I started.
The fog that once surrounded my path slowly disappeared.
People began to see what God had placed inside me all along, the power in my creativity, the depth in my work, and the way my art could move hearts and awaken something in others.
And now I understand something that was always true.
I didn’t just take a risk on art.
I stepped into the destiny God wrote for me from the very beginning, and I’m becoming the powerful artist I was always meant to be.

Maivena , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My journey into the art industry began in a powerful and unexpected way, on the runway of a fashion show. The first time I truly stepped into the art world was when my artwork was featured in that show, turning the runway into a canvas and introducing my creativity to a live audience.
When I first started creating, every piece of art was an experiment. I spent many sleepless nights exploring and pushing my creativity by working with different mediums. I began combining glass, mirrors, clay, and resin. I tested how those materials could interact and transform together. What started as experimentation quickly turned into something beautiful and unique. From that moment on, those materials became my staple and signature style.
My work is more than just art, it’s a fusion of emotion, faith, and purpose brought to life through materials that tell a story. Each piece is designed to inspire, provoke thought, and move people in ways that go beyond the surface. What sets me apart isn’t just my technique or choice of mediums,it’s the calling behind every creation. I stepped into this path with blind faith, trusting that God called me to create and anointed my hands to bring visions to life that others might never imagine. My art is a reflection of that divine purpose, and every piece carries the power of intention, innovation, and heart.
What I’m most proud of is the growth that came from trusting the process. What began as experimentation and late nights turned into powerful works that connect with people and tell a deeper story.
What I want potential supporters, clients, and followers to know is that my brand is built on faith, perseverance, and purpose. My journey proves that when you step into the calling placed on your life and trust the process, something powerful can be created.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of being an artist for me is seeing the impact my work can have on others. When someone connects with a piece I’ve created, when it moves them, inspires them, or helps them see something in a new way. it reminds me that following my calling was worth every sleepless night and every risk. Knowing that God gave me this gift and that I can use it to touch hearts and tell stories that matter makes every moment of the journey meaningful.

We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In September 2025, I entered the biggest art competition in Grand Rapids, Michigan, full of excitement and hope. But one night, someone went to the hotel where my art was stationed and stabbed my pieces with a knife. It was devastating to see my work damaged after all the effort, faith, and sleepless nights I had poured into it.
Even in that moment, I refused to give up. I kept my art there, kept believing in my calling, and kept going. That experience taught me that resilience isn’t just about continuing,it’s about standing firm in your purpose even when others try to knock you down.
This year, 2026, I will be returning to that same competition, stronger, more prepared, and more determined than ever to show that nothing can stop the art God has called me to create
