We were lucky to catch up with Maddy Flammang recently and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Maddy, thanks for joining us today. Did you always know you wanted to pursue a creative or artistic career? When did you first know?
In third grade, I was an artist AND a class clown. I’d make these silly potato (def did NOT resemble a potato) doodle comics and would pass them out around the school! People loved them and even started to draw my potato doodle everywhere.
When I was a freshman in high school I expressed my dream of becoming an artist to my math teacher and she just laughed.
“Artists don’t get money!”
This fueled a fire in me and made me more focused on obtaining a degree in the arts & nourishing my artistic ability.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
As someone who worked for various apparel corporations with a creative job title, I just didn’t find it fulfilling enough. I despised constantly keeping up with the fast fashion trends.
So I became a small jewelry store business owner and artist!
Starting in 2023, I basically just winged it and began a business plan of up cycling junk jewelry and findings. This year I’m learning metal work to expand the variety in my shop & pieces.
What sets me apart is that I don’t take a contemporary or fully methodical approach to design. I design intuitively, and for a likeminded niche- alternative- eclectic market that also enjoys antiques/vintage/avant- Garde stuff!
Novisade provides confidence and new style options for my buyers. I genuinely believe anyone can pull off anything if they have the confidence and love the piece they sport.

How did you build your audience on social media?
My social media audience, mainly being Instagram, is built on perseverance and not giving up once things don’t look bright.
I constantly pushed out new reel content nearly every day to get my first thousand, passed out business cards at every flea market i attended, and created on brand visually appealing posts
My advice is to find your personal brand, stick to that (color scheme, props, overall style, etc) and continue making reels. It’s like gambling on Instagram-you never know which reel will hit the algorithm jackpot and get you dozens of followers.

Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
Absolutely. Since I was young, I always wanted to be a vintage store owner, artist or fashion designer.
Jewelry designer/shop owner is the best of all those worlds because I incorporate all those jobs into one!
Also, I despise working for a corporation who will never know your name or what you’re about!
