We caught up with the brilliant and insightful K. Maree a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
K. Maree, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Risk taking is something we’re really interested in and we’d love to hear the story of a risk you’ve taken.
I have taken on a lot of big risks in my life such as moving away hours from my family starting a whole new life reestablishing myself. Through the transition and the new journey I have been on, life of course has had its ups & downs, but through the grace of God & the love & support I have obtained from my family & close friends, I have overcame everything and been great along the way. One major turnaround in my life is when I moved for new changes in all aspects of my life & started flourishing in my dreams & goals. I started accomplishing a lot in my music career by putting a lot of money, time, & effort into my music and an upcoming album I am working on called “Experiences”. The album is dope & talks about different experiences I have faced or what others have gone through as well. Every song has its own vibe to it as well to match the different experiences. I feel as an artist and an entrepreneur, when you have a huge drive or passion for something, you put your all into something because you want the best outcome & product of YOUR hard work and dedication. .
K. Maree, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
First & foremost, I want to say hi to everyone but my name is K. Maree. I am originally from a small town called Cairo, GA but I have been living in Atlanta now for 3 years. Atlanta is 4 hours away from Cairo to be exact. I moved to Atlanta in August of 2022 after graduating undergrad in college. I knew that staying in my hometown wasn’t the move for me anymore and I needed a change in life for myself so I literally packed all my things, moved away alone, & started completely over. That was the biggest risk I had ever taken in life, but I was so happy I took it because life got better for me once I left. The change was definitely needed. I came up here & started teaching which is what all my degrees are in. I have an Associates, Bachelor’s, & Master’s in education. While teaching, God was revealing to me that this wasn’t my purpose because I was also pursuing my music career which was going better than teaching for me. I had decided to go towards that lane more considering the fact I have a passion for music & singing and I knew it was my talent and gift. I started connecting with other people and ended up landing with Jazze Pha who is a well-known famous producer in Atlanta & did my first hit single with him called “Don’t Think About It” which is currently out on all music platforms AND on the radio everywhere. I also started & registered my first business for my artist brand in the state of Georgia called “K. Maree, LLC. I plan on working on & building more businesses as well in the future. My vision has always been to be my own boss and do things I love to do that can always help others as well. I take pride in my plans and goals and want to make a difference & inspiration to others which I have been told I do and keep thriving in who I am and what I want to accomplish along the way.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
As I stated before, life has had its ups and downs. During my journey of doing music, I have been through a lot transitioning from different producers, engineers, etc trying to find my niche as an artist & always feeling like everyone was taking advantage of me & my craft. As an upcoming artist, there were PLENTY of times I wanted to give up, but I know God shines a light at the very end of the tunnel. I am thankful that God kept me going along with my family to never give up and keep going to pursue my dreams and goals. You have to go through things to grow from them. Everything you encounter is a learning experience good or bad. God definitely never said the journey would be easy, but he doesn’t put more on you than you can bear and as long as he sees you trying he will never leave or forsake you.
Have you ever had to pivot?
I would say my music journey itself I had to pivot alone. I feel like I had to navigate around and find my sound & find my true identity in the industry. Dealing with so many people telling me this & that which some stuff I had to learn on my own is a lot to take in and constantly redirect myself over. I know there is a lot to learn and know which I am all open for even in my business. Pivoting isn’t always a bad thing, it’s a change for something better and greater which is my main goal at the end of the day.
