Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Christine Harazim. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Christine, thanks for joining us today. How did you learn to do what you do? Knowing what you know now, what could you have done to speed up your learning process? What skills do you think were most essential? What obstacles stood in the way of learning more?
How did I learn? Honestly… I messed up. A lot.
I learned by doing, by trying things that didn’t work, and by figuring out why they didn’t work. I don’t think there’s a shortcut for creative work that’s meaningful. The growth comes from the trial and error, from showing up even when the results aren’t what you hoped for.
Looking back, the only thing that might have sped things up would have been asking for help sooner and letting go of perfectionism earlier. I spent a lot of time thinking I had to figure everything out on my own.
The most essential skills weren’t technical, at least not at first. Resilience, humility, and the willingness to keep going were everything. You have to be willing to set your pride aside, learn from mistakes, and keep showing up.
The biggest obstacle to learning more was honestly my own fear. Fear of not being good enough. Fear of putting my work out there. Once I got more comfortable being a beginner and letting the process be messy, everything started moving forward.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the photographer and owner behind Effortless Boudoir, based in Baltimore. I specialize in boudoir photography for everyday women who want to see themselves differently, often at a time in their lives when their confidence needs a little rebuilding.
I didn’t get into boudoir because I thought it was glamorous or trendy. I got into it because I saw how many women were walking around disconnected from their bodies and convinced they had to change before they were allowed to feel beautiful. Over time, the work became less about photography and more about creating an experience where someone can show up exactly as they are and feel safe, seen, and supported.
Today, I offer fully guided boudoir sessions that include professional hair and makeup, pre-session planning, posing guidance, and a private studio experience. Most of my clients have never done anything like this before. They don’t know how to pose. They’re nervous about their bodies. They’re worried they won’t look like the women they see online. My job is to take all of that pressure off their shoulders and walk them through the entire process so they can relax into the experience.
The problem I really solve isn’t about photos. It’s helping women reconnect with themselves. Many of my clients are navigating big life transitions, body changes, motherhood, divorce, aging, healing from trauma, or simply years of putting everyone else first. They come in thinking this is about confidence, but what they usually leave with is something deeper. They see themselves with more kindness. They feel proud of themselves. They carry that feeling forward long after the session is over.
What sets my work apart is the environment I create. The experience is calm, private, and completely judgment-free. I’m not trying to turn anyone into someone they’re not. I’m not chasing trends or a specific “look.” Every session is tailored to the person in front of me, their comfort level, their story, and what feeling beautiful means to them.
I’m also very hands-on throughout the process. Clients receive a welcome guide, outfit support, and the option for a planning call. During the session, I guide every pose so no one ever feels like they have to know what they’re doing. Most people walk in nervous and walk out feeling like they can take on the world!
What I’m most proud of is the transformation that happens emotionally. Not the before-and-after photos, but the shift in how someone carries themselves when they leave. The messages I get months later saying they still feel different. That’s the part of this work that means the most to me.
If there’s one thing I want people to know about my brand, it’s this: boudoir isn’t just for a certain body type, age, or stage of life. You don’t need to lose weight. You don’t need to be confident first. You don’t need to know how to pose or wear lingerie.
You just have to be willing to show up.
Everything else, I’ll take care of.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
I believe that consistency and care are most responsible for my reputation.
I’ve built my reputation by focusing on the experience just as much as the photos. From the first inquiry to the final image reveal, I try to make the process feel clear, supportive, and personal. Most of my clients come in nervous, so building trust is everything. When someone feels genuinely taken care of, they talk about it. A lot of my growth has come from word of mouth because of that.
Clear communication has also been a big part of it. I answer questions before they’re even asked, I walk clients through every step, and I don’t leave people guessing about what to expect. That level of preparation helps people feel safe enough to fully show up for the experience.
Another piece is staying true to what my work is actually about. I’m not trying to follow trends or create a one-size-fits-all look. My focus has always been on real women, real stories, and creating images that feel honest and personal. That authenticity resonates with the kind of clients I want to serve.
And just showing up consistently over time. Sharing the work, sharing the behind-the-scenes, talking openly about the nerves and the transformation that happens. Trust isn’t built overnight. It comes from people seeing the same care and intention again and again.
At the end of the day, my reputation isn’t built on the photos alone. It’s built on how people feel when they work with me, and how they feel about themselves afterward.
What’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative in your experience?
The most rewarding part of my work is the transformation I get to witness, especially in the women I photograph.
It’s not just about the images. It’s the shift that happens during the experience. I see women walk in nervous, critical of themselves, sometimes disconnected from their bodies. And then something changes. They relax. They start to trust themselves. They see themselves differently. Watching that moment happen never gets old.
I also feel incredibly grateful that this work allows me to support myself financially while creating something that feels meaningful. I’m not just running a business. I’m creating experiences that help women reconnect with their confidence and their sense of self.
I once ended a storytelling event, Stoop Stories here in Baltimore, with the line, “A woman who is comfortable in her skin can do anything.” I truly believe that.
Confidence doesn’t just stay with one person. There’s a ripple effect. When a woman starts to feel more comfortable in herself, it changes how she shows up in her relationships, her work, and her life. And that energy spreads to the women and girls around her.
Being part of that ripple, even in a small way, is the most rewarding part of what I do.
