We caught up with the brilliant and insightful M.C. KEV a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, M.C. thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s been the most meaningful project you’ve worked on?
I had a residency through Arts Westchester for a shelter in White Plains NY. This project was meaningful because they gave me the creative freedom to paint a mural. But when I started painting the concept. The kids from the shelter would come watch and give me ideas that I would inorporate to inspire them and motivate them along with their families.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Kevin Veal but I go by the Nickname of M.C. Kev. I’m a visual and recording artist born and raised in Mount Vernon NY. As long as I can remember | drew pictures of whatever I saw; in which was natural for me to do.
As well as writing poetry and performing lyrics through Rap music.. At the tender age of 7 1 was performing anywhere my art form was accepted. That caught the attention of music execs that took me under the wing and groomed me into the music business. That eventually landed me a recording contract with Spoiled Rotten/ Atlantic Big Beat in 1992 and later in 1995 with Fully loaded records. All awhile drawing, painting creating visual art as I still do both to this day. My fans/ clients enjoy that I’m an artist that incorporates both. From songs to paintings I’m often told people get inspired trom my creations. As I use them to reflect the good, bad ugly and beauty of life. Through social media I display both gifts and brand myself as an artist’s artist. Now as an entrepreneur CEO of Veal Enterprises Inc. I use my gifts to make a way for myself. I’m often get inspired by watching other artists that are multitalented as I. For it was foreign to see back in the days and now it became the norm to display different sides of oneself as myself.

We’d love to hear your thoughts on NFTs. (Note: this is for education/entertainment purposes only, readers should not construe this as advice)
My view on NFT’s is it can be a great platform to generate money and more exposure on a worldwide level. But it’s also a way that people in that digital space can steal money and scam artist. So I’m not a fan of it being I got scammed from a person posing as a client and art collector. It cost money to mint (create) an NFT on most platforms.Which is through cryptocurrency. To convert your money to cryptocurrency is a task within itself along with converting the cryptocurrency to money in your account. Once you send money to a site there’s nothing you can do to get it back; if you decide to change your mind. I’m use to art being tangible. So I’m not a fan of it. Especially from my experiences. Also you may not know or see the person who’s buying your art. So be careful and study it thoroughly before you get into it.

We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
I had to unlearn being naive. I got scammed from a person posing as a client and art collector. I was in contact with this person for months. She wanted to buy my art in NFT for for 2 ETH (Etherium). In which I had to use in order to create the NFT. Once I sent money to a site to mint it she made some excuse on I needed to mint 3 artworks for her to buy it smh. I got scammed and there was nothing I can do to get my money back!
