We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Lucas Hughes. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Lucas below.
Lucas, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I haven’t finished learning and I think that’s the biggest thing. I have never allowed myself to be comfortable only knowing what I currently know. I began doing research about the entertainment industry on a few different websites. Backstage, Variety, Deadline all became places I would spend hours. As I learned more the more specific my research became and it allowed me to hone in on what I considered to be the essential things. A few of the essentials that anyone starting out in this industry needs to realize is that there is no such thing as over night success, there are no shortcuts and the more you know about yourself the more successful you’ll be.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Lucas Hughes and I am an Actor, Instructor, Writer, Director and Producer located in Houston Texas.
I am currently represented professionally in Atlanta by KTA Talent, as well as in Texas and the southeast by Page Parkes. Some of the companies I have worked for in commercials, Live Experiences, or Tv include Budweiser, Coca Cola, Ifly, HBO and Prime Video.
I also teach a variety of classes for Page Parkes that include “Tv and Film technique”, “Improv” and “Audition Technique” as well as a few specialty classes which range from single day workshops through 8 weeks. In addition to my teaching at Page Parkes I also offer private tapings, coaching, and career guidance services. Some of the people I have worked with have gone onto major productions a few of which include “Respect” starring Jennifer Hudson and best picture Oscar winner “GreenBook”.
I have worked for people of all ages ranging from 5 years old to 70 years old with all different backgrounds and ambitions. Not everyone who works with me is interested in becoming an Actor but what I teach will not only make you a better Actor but will help make you a better person. I teach to embrace who you are, where you’ve been and what you’ve done and teach how to confidently be yourself!
There is no age limit for this industry and it is never too late to start, if you want more information or to work with me feel free to reach out! [email protected]
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
After the last few years I think most people now have a story of resilience. During the pandemic the entire industry shut down and is now starting to make its way back into a state resembling what it did before. When the industry made the call for public safety and ceased productions everyone in this field was left without a way to make a living. This all came around the time I was also planning a wedding with my now wife. As the pandemic continued and the industry remained idle I needed a way to be able to help contribute in my relationship so I began writing more and also practicing my camera work which led to the creation of my production company “Hugheston Productions”. Under my new production company I have written, filmed, and completed multiple projects and have more in production. Along with the media I have created under Hugheston Productions I have also started a weekly newsletter on Substack called “Hugheston Insight” where I share reviews, acting advice, industry news and other things for those in the industry or someone interested in learning something new.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
The most rewarding aspect of what I do is getting to help people make a realization about themselves. This industry and field of work requires so many things but most importantly it needs you. Regardless of who you are, where you are from and what you do day to day this industry needs you. We need your voice, your story and your way of seeing the world. The more ways we are able to see and understand the world the more we are able to understand it and those that live in it.
