We were lucky to catch up with Lotus HiLL recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lotus, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Taking a risk is like letting go of fear and doubt and walking in faith into the valley of pure potentiality. I believe that there has to be a certain level of risks taken in life in order for things to manifest. Over the years, I’ve gotten more comfortable with being uncomfortable and that is when I find myself in positions that allow me to truly grow. Whether it be chasing a dream, breaking out of societal norms, embracing your authentic self for the world to see, or making a business investment, making the choice to take a risk in something that you believe will always be worth it because it will always be a lesson learned or a blessing earned. I remember working my job years ago when I heard that Sway In The Morning was going to have a cypher in Orlando. I called out of work, told my homie Luis about it, and we immediately drove up from Miami to Orlando, booked a night at a hotel, and woke up bright and early the next day to make it on Sway In The Morning. I was able to rap live on air as well as meet the hosts and give them my CDs. That was a risk I was willing to take for my music career without knowing how anything would really turn out, but my intuition and pursuit did not leave me astray. I’ve had countless experiences like this and live my life by taking risks that always land me in the most wonderful scenarios.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
When people see & hear Lotus HiLL, I want them to correlate that to someone who has chiseled their craft, put in the 10,000 hours, and brought hope and light to others in the world as a voice for the voiceless. My music is made to elevate mind, body, and spirit and express experiences that I have gone through in hopes that someone else resonates. I love the kids and have even created an eBook called “From The Mud” for them to enjoy with fun rhymes and beautiful artwork. I’ve done many charity events for local organizations. What sets me apart from others is my authenticity in my music and way of being. I’ve been on XXL magazine as an Artist To Watch. I’ve put together my own mixtape release tour. As a student and a teacher of the rap game, with 7 projects to my name to date, I plan to continue releasing quality content for the masses to enjoy.
Have any books or other resources had a big impact on you?
There have definitely been books that have significantly impacted my thinking and philosophy. Just to make a few: Think And Grow Rich by Napoleon Hill, The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, The Power Of Now by Eckhart Tolle, The Seven Spiritual Laws Of Success by Deepak Chopra, The Alchemist by Paulo Coelho, and The Richest Man In Babylon by George Samuel Clason.
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
A lesson I had to unlearn was not pursuing a passion just because others thought it was unattainable. I was raised to believe that the matrix we live in is all there is. But once you live your truth, you begin to attain what others had told you was impossible to attain. This then makes you question everything and experiment with the things that truly align with you. Once that barrier has been broken through, you then realize that anything you put your energy and faith into is possible.
