Starting SearchX was a leap of faith, one that put me in a situation where my back was against the wall. After leaving my employer to start my own agency, I had no safety net—failure wasn’t an option. When you’re in a position where the only choice is to win, you find a way to make it happen. Your mind and body align to do whatever it takes to succeed.
The journey began with a clear business plan and a strong brand vision. I bootstrapped the business, focusing on building a professional online presence and setting up a small but efficient office. The early days were tough, especially with the pressure of securing clients and managing limited finances. But that pressure drove me to push harder, network relentlessly, and deliver exceptional value to every client.
One of the biggest challenges was client acquisition, but by offering free consultations and leveraging my network, I gradually built trust and a reputation for delivering results. This drive to succeed shaped every aspect of SearchX and was key to overcoming the hurdles of starting a business.

I’m the founder of SearchX, an SEO agency that began in Charleston and has since expanded to Stockholm, Austin, and Miami. My journey into digital marketing started with a deep desire to help businesses grow online, but after years in the industry, I grew tired of feeling like just a cog in the wheel. In many places I worked, there was no real passion for success, no reward for extraordinary work—just the same routine, day in and day out. How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Building my reputation in the SEO market came from more than just technical know-how—it was about being genuinely passionate and always willing to help others. There was never a conversation I had where SEO didn’t come up at least once. Whether I was talking with best friends, mutual acquaintances, or even people I met at a bar, someone always knew someone who owned a business or was trying to start one. I made it a point to offer my help in turning their dreams into reality, no strings attached.
By always being there to offer guidance and support, I started to build trust with a few key individuals. Sometimes that meant offering discounts during tough times or going the extra mile to ensure their success. That’s the real gold—helping others achieve their goals. Over time, these small acts of support and genuine interest in others’ success fostered a reputation of trust and reliability. It’s through these personal connections and a commitment to helping others that my reputation in the market grew and continues to thrive.

Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
One of the most challenging moments in my journey came when a few long-term clients, who had been with me for over 12 months, needed to leave due to financial strain on their end. These were clients I had built strong relationships with, and their departure hit hard—not just financially, but emotionally as well. It felt like a significant setback, especially since we had been working so closely to achieve their goals.
Instead of letting this discourage me, I saw it as an opportunity to demonstrate resilience and commitment to my clients. I reached out to them personally, offering to work with them on flexible payment plans or reduced rates to help them through their tough times. My priority was to maintain the trust and rapport we had built, even if it meant temporarily sacrificing revenue.
Some clients were able to continue with adjusted terms, while others appreciated the gesture but still had to pause our services. Despite the challenges, this experience reinforced the importance of standing by your clients through thick and thin. It taught me that resilience isn’t just about weathering the storm—it’s about showing up for the people who’ve supported you and finding ways to keep moving forward together. This approach not only strengthened my relationships with those clients but also reinforced my reputation for being a partner who truly cares about their success.
