We recently connected with Lizabeth Greer and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Lizabeth thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Do you have any advice regarding quality control and maintaining quality as your brand grows?
I truly believe in all aspects of quality control: time, communication, and product. All these factors play in the overall achievement of a quality experience. Discipline has been an important factor in my life that has allowed me to work on each of these factors individually. When I first started out in photography many people would say “book everyone” but I was very fortunate in this journey to only book families that I wanted to book. Relationships go both ways and thats exactly how I view each client. My goal is to always give the best version of myself and when I can’t, I learn from that experience and also remove myself if another photographer is better aligned with that couple’s vision. Discipline has allowed me to push out the best product for that season. I’ve noticed with more referrals I’ve had to learn to say no for the betterment of the families experience and the company. I worry by not controlling the quantity of bookings that quality will diminish to try and keep up with demand. I am very appreciative to those who are willing to move their dates to keep/hire me as a photographer. That loyalty humbles me. I’m so blessed that 90% of my bookings come from referrals. Quality is different for each couple. Some couples prefer longer/shorter sessions, some completely trust me with the vision while others want to create a collaborative experience. Because I take into account many factors for each couple, it’s important I limit myself on bookings each year to give my best self.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
Hi! My name is Lizabeth. I got into the photography industry in 2018 and its been an amazing journey since. I have learned so much about my community as well as myself. I strive to give the best of myself to each couple and in doing so, its forced me to step outside of my comfort zone and be creative. I have always been into art, more specifically drawing and paining. I bought a camera to document my life around San Diego, CA. When I first moved here, I had a couple reach out to me for a fun photoshoot and the rest has been an amazing ride! That night I stayed up and learned all I could about my camera settings and photoshop. The photoshoot was published and it snowballed into the creation my business. I have been featured on Pop Sugar, Minted, The Voyage: San Diego + Houston, San Diego Wedding Magazine, and more. I truly didn’t expect any of this, but it has been so fun creating with each family and seeing our visions come to life as a team. I believe the collaborative aspect of my business is what sets me apart. At the moment, I specialize in weddings, couples, and families. Although these are my specialities, I’m always open to new sessions! I’m most proud of my clients. Since most clients are either returning or referred, it’s always a really cool feeling when the family/couple goes from “ I’m weird and not sure what to do for posing” to when they are confident and even creating poses of their own!
We’d love to hear about how you keep in touch with clients.
I keep in touch with clients on social media or through calls/texts. I try and build a friendship with each couple. I would feel so weird showing up to their wedding day, not having met them prior, then never talking to them again. I love seeing my couples go from dating, engaged, married, to growing their family. My clients are the reason I branched into family photography. We all wanted to continue to work with one another, and I am so blessed to witness their lives grow!! My clients are the ones who cheer me on when taking on new photography opportunities and I love them for that!! I truly work for amazing people.

Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Resources I wish I knew about earlier in my creative journey would be Pinterest + Mentorships + Lawyers. Pinterest is a great way to market your business for new clients while creating a mood-boards for photoshoot visions. Although I am self-taught, I wish I knew about mentorship’s before jumping into the community. I feel mentorship’s are a great way to gain experience from another photographer as well as gain community! Lawyers are great for creating a contract that best suits your business! Their knowledge on businesses also helps when thinking of new/future business ventures.
