Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Lisa Sims. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Hi Lisa, thanks for joining us today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I got my very first client as I was finishing my Associate’s Degree in college. I really needed some real life experience designing websites so I posted an ad in the school newspaper stating I would design a website for $300 and I got a response from a photographer who lived in Indiana. OMG I was so excited, so I reached out to her and she showed me an example of what she wanted and I went for it. At the time we were using Dreamweaver and I believe I was using Adobe CS2, which was so long ago!

I ran home and got on my computer and designed the best website I could. Her and her husband was so patient and loved the website when I finished. She used it for a long time and we are still in touch to this day!!

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am a graphic and web designer with 14 years of experience and over 20 years as an executive assistant. I grew up being a very creative person. My first job in corporate America, I worked as an administrative assistant on one of the first MAC PC’s back in the early 90’s, In those positions, I was asked to design all sorts of things from postcards to brochures. It was at that time I knew I wanted to work on computers designing things.

Currently, I have a full service graphic/web design business. I design business cards, fliers, posters, logos…basically anything print or digital. I help my clients through the hard part…figuring out what works for their business by offering my expertise in the field by offering practical solutions to help them build their brand. I have a very strong eye for detail and I’m passionate about what I do.

What sets me apart from others is having great customer service and communication skills with my clients. They never have to wonder where I am on their projects. I’m responsive and I’m also instructing my clients on things they may not have knowledge of. I want them to be knowledgeable, so should they decide to work with someone else down the line, they will be aware of what to do.

I’m most proud of having repeat customers and how my business has grown over the years! Whenever past clients need something they ALWAYS reach out to me and/or always send me referrals. This is why it’s so important to build good relationships with those you work with! I’ve recently just launched “The Uncluttered Desk Virtual Concierge”, this is an additional service to the Passionate 2 Design Brand.

The Uncluttered Desk is a virtual assistance business that offers specialized knowledge in both administrative/management and graphic/web design experience, by focusing on bringing HIGH value and FREEDOM to Real Estate and Travel Agents. This is my niche audience because I absolutely love traveling and real estate. I’m currently working with several agents in both sectors and its so rewarding. I’m a Type 2 on the Enneagram scale, which means I LOVE helping others, so I’ll be just as passionate about your business like I will with mine and that’s a WIN, WIN for us both!

Outside of my running my businesses I am the founder of Charity is Love, a non-profit organization that feeds the homeless sector here in the Dallas area.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My past clients, family and friends has been the best source of getting new clients. I have received referrals from others that I haven’t even designed things for!

What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
The quality of my work! I’m like Erykah Badu..”I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my ****”; therefore I take GREAT PRIDE in what I produce for my clients…why? because not only is it a representation of them but of me! I’m a bit of a perfectionist, so when I design products you can best believe it will be professional and very eye appealing! My clients know this as to why they send me referrals!
