We were lucky to catch up with Lisa McConnell recently and have shared our conversation below.
Lisa, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We’d love to start by getting your thoughts on what you are seeing as some the biggest trends emerging in your industry.
Some of the biggest trends I’m currently seeing are people realizing you can make such a statement with balloon decor! They aren’t just for kids parties anymore.
Lisa , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
What started out as a love for throwing over-the-top parties led to a full blown business which I named Boss Babe Balloon Co. I have been doing family and friends parties for years and took a leap of faith to go public this April. The response from Kansas City has been AMAZING & OVERWHELMING to say the least! I have been able to meet so many fabulous people along the way and I am so excited to see where this goes. We have quickly expanded from just balloon decor to renting out our Modern All White Bounce House, to now offering kids table and chair rentals. We aim to be a ONE-STOP-SHOP for all of your party and event needs.
Our one on one customer service is top notch and I pride myself on offering the best. There is nothing more frustrating then not getting a response from an inquiry about a service. You won’t have to worry about that with us! We are prompt, efficient and friendly.
I take so much pride in being a minority & woman owned business. I want to prove to everyone, you can really do anything you put your mind to. I’ve worn so many hats to land me where I am today, but never gave up, or plan to give up!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Social Media is a double edged sword! It is an amazing FREE tool that can get your business so much exposure! But it is honestly another job in itself. I created a business Facebook & Instagram only. Between those 2, I have had much success with reaching clients and potential clients. CONTENT is key, along with consitency!
Can you talk to us about how your side-hustle turned into something more.
I launched my business to the public April 1, 2022. I figured it was the perfect day, April Fool’s Day. I was either going to make it or break it. By the end of May I had 21 events in 31 days and that’s when I knew this was definitely taking off into the direction I wanted it to, but was not prepared for! It is more then a full time job, I do work 7 days a week, sometimes 12-14 hour days. The work/life balance has been so hard to navigate but I know it will all be worth it in the end!
