We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Linwood Lee a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Linwood thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you walk us through some of the key steps that allowed you move beyond an idea and actually launch?
Ideas are the easiest part of my creative journey. Putting ideas into action is another. Everything started back in 2021 during the pandemic when everyone was sitting at home. I was spending a lot of my time watching YouTube videos and one day I thought, what if I came up with my own channel?? Once I mace the decision that I was going to start my content journey, I instantly started writing down ideas. Even after I had all the ideas written down it took me months to actually post any content. I was nervous, unsure of what people would think, not really confident in myself all of the above. Finally in 2022 I made the decision that I was going to take content seriously and stick with it without having any expectations of what was next to come. Going with the flow of the journey, putting my ideas out and adjusting as I go. I started just commentating on NBA finals games on Instagram, which turned into me going live talking about basketball topics along with sharing knowledge in the process. After I did that for a while, I then started bringing on guests who are or were student athletes to share their experiences and what they learned along their journey. Once I got in a rhythm with that I opened up to the idea of making it more than basketball, but keeping that as the main focus. I invested more time into the craft, I started editing my own YouTube videos, studying other successful creators and putting more of my ideas out for everyone to see. Now I create book reviews, vlogs, reaction videos and plenty more. Since I made that decision to stick with the process I have fell in love with the entire process. The main thing I have learned throughout this process is perseverance. There are things that you won’t be the best at in the beginning, but also if you never start anywhere you won’t be able to get to the point of being great or anywhere close. It will just be an idea. Things won’t always go as planned but if you stay the course you will learn something from everything along the way. The journey is the focus, it’s where you learn from the ups and the downs. Enjoy the process

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
My name is Linwood Lee, I am from Muskegon, Michigan. I got into the creator industry to share my knowledge and experiences with others who may be in my position as far as not knowing what to do after student athlete life. Or even knowing more of what to do in the process. Not saying I have all the answers but the information that was passed down to me I feel will be beneficial for the next person. The most thing I am proud of is my discipline to stay the course and not give up when things get tough or don’t go the way you planned it. I want to be an example of someone wanting to take an idea and bring it to reality even when you don’t know where to start. The internet has all the information you need, find others in whatever space you want to get into and if they are genuine people they will want to see you do well and give you tips along the way. Trust the process and trust yourself, take the risk and let God take care of the rest.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Consistency, I have yet to build a huge following but people appreciate consistency. The people who believe and understand why you do what you do will stick around to see your progress.

Are there any books, videos, essays or other resources that have significantly impacted your management and entrepreneurial thinking and philosophy?
Rick Ruben: The Creative Act, A Way Of Being. Simon Sinek: Start With Why
These two books helped me delete the self doubt and gain confidence in myself. Taking the pressure off of myself for everything to be perfect and going with the flow of the journey.
